The Daily Mail is seeking a high-level producer and manager to help lead our shows team. This person will work closely with the head of shows to oversee the development, production, and growth of an original programming slate that generates massive audiences, primarily on YouTube.

This is a brand new team that you’ll have the opportunity to help build from the ground up. You’ll affect decision-making on everything from which show concepts we’re going to develop to how our videos should look and feel. 

The most important part of this role is creative: you’ll be asked to lead a team that produces premium-quality shows that reach millions of people. 

The deputy head of shows reports to the head of shows. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Work with the head of shows to create an efficient and effective development process, with a clear roadmap for how things go from an idea on a piece of paper to a pilot to a greenlit series.
  • Manage a team of senior producers and editors that produce repeatable, identifiable series.
  • Oversee the production of shows at a high level, giving detailed notes and working with showrunners to set the direction for each concept. Initially, producing and directing series yourself may be a requirement. 
  • Work closely with the global head of video to set our YouTube strategy and define success.

Required Skills and Qualities: 

  • A proven track record of working on shows that are wildly popular on YouTube.
  • A deep understanding of the principles of good long-form video storytelling.
  • An entrepreneurial drive to build a team from scratch.
  • Experience managing a team at a digital media company.
  • An obsession with trying to figure out how to reach the widest possible audience with your videos.
  • A curiosity about the distribution dynamics of the YouTube algorithm.
  • Excellent taste and a clear sense of what makes a great story.
  • A strong understanding of the principles of good journalism.
  • A global perspective that brings an understanding of how to reach English speakers no matter where they are in the world.
