This is an exciting, fixed term secondment opportunity for a Band 6 Occupational Therapist to work in a highly specialist ME/CFS Service in Lincolnshire.

We are a busy multidisciplinary team seeing adults and young people within the Lincolnshire ICB. Experience is essential in long term conditions.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will assist in the Physical Health Psychology service delivery assisting individuals with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) across Lincolnshire.

This service is a multidisciplinary team offering a collaborative approach to delivering an effective, efficient service to CFS patients and carers.

The post holder will:

Promote a holistic, supportive and patient centred service and facilitate education, acceptance and lifestyle changes, promoting self-management and aiding recovery/ improvement from the symptoms of ME/CFS

As an advocate for patients and their families when necessary

Liaise with other health / support agencies including self-help and other voluntary groups

Act as an educator to other healthcare professionals

Monitor effectiveness and efficiency of service delivery.

Support the assessment and therapy provided by other clinical members of the team.

Support professional development of other clinical members of the team

Collect clinical data, direct and provide audit information and participate in service planning and development.

Provide leadership for best practise to other occupational therapists in related teams.

Be responsible for service delivery within the specialty.

Implement policy and policy changes in own clinical area and/ or to that which affects all services.

Take a lead role in the teaching and supervision of occupational therapy assistance and students, also to deliver training to other members of the MDT team and associated staff.

The key result areas include:

The provision of appropriate assessment, support and therapy (individual and group) to children, adults and older adults with CFS and to their families/ carers

The provision of information and advice about CFS and related areas, including support options and formulation of strategies for treatment for patients, families, carers and other agencies involved in patient care.

Effective communication and care planning within the multidisciplinary team setting

Effective management of a caseload, which has the potential to be high, according to professional standards and codes of conduct.

Case management of complex cases

Contribution to service development and associated research and identifying clinical and service need for these.

Development of clinical policies bought the service to ensure professional standards are met, and there is economic use of the service and good clinical governance is maintained.

Qualifications

Essential


  • Registered occupational therapist
  • Accredited practice placement educator (or within 12 months of appointment)

Desirable


  • Rehabilitation qualification
  • Teaching qualification
  • Management qualification
  • Advanced keyboard skills
  • LEO certificate
  • Member of COT

Experience

Essential


  • At least three years' experience working in rehabilitation/in the community
  • Experience of using evidence-based interventions
  • Experience of working with adults and either children/adolescents and/or older adults
  • A broad clinical knowledge base with a range of client groups and of factors affecting clients with disabilities
  • Specialised knowledge base in related areas for purposes of differential diagnosis
  • Understanding of clinical governance
  • Understanding of risk management
  • Understanding of child protection issues

Desirable


  • Knowledge and understanding of the needs of patients with ME/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
  • Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience of working in related clinical areas, such as pain management or with chronic long-term conditions
  • Work experience with individuals with complex needs, such as dual diagnosis
  • Responsibility for a defined service area including assessment, planning and implementation of care
  • Evidence of innovative practice with regard to education and research-based practice
  • Research skills to post graduate level
  • Experienced in the training and development of other staff members
