We are seeking to recruit a motivated, skilled and highly organised Telefriending Coordinator to lead our Telefriending Service , and to and contribute to the support that LGBT Health offers to LGBT+ older people (50 years+) throughout Scotland.

About us

Established in 2003, LGBT Health and Wellbeing is Scotland’s health and wellbeing charity for LGBTQ+ people (16+). We work to improve the physical, social, and mental health and wellbeing of LGBTQ+ people by providing responsive support services and social opportunities for our community to connect, and by supporting mainstream services to become more inclusive.

About Telefriending

Telefriending is a phone-based service delivered by a friendly and experienced team of volunteers. It offers regular phone calls to older LGBT+ people (50+) who might be isolated, to give you the space to be yourself and talk about things you may not have anyone else to talk to about.

About the role
  • Part-time: 16 hours per week (part-time)
  • Salary: £30,153 pro rata (based on 36h)
  • Contract: fixed term until 31st March 2025
  • Location: Edinburgh or Glasgow

The main purpose of the role is to lead on the delivery of the Telefriending Service which offers regular phone-based support to LGBT elders throughout Scotland. The Coordinator is responsible for:

  • carrying out initial assessment with new referrals and matching referrals
  • recruit, train and supervise volunteers and sessional staff
  • coordinate weekly staff and volunteer rotas
  • lead a team of sessional staff and volunteers
  • promote the service
  • collect and collate reporting data
  • ensure that the Telefriending project is delivered to a high standard
About you

We are looking for somebody who:

  • Has excellent knowledge of issues facing LGBTQ+ communities, including older people and those who may be particularly marginalised and vulnerable
  • Is compassionate, understanding and non-judgemental
  • Understands the importance of confidentiality
