Do you have a keen interest in IV therapy? Do you want to develop your management and leadership skills while being fully supported? The West Sussex IV Service is developing and expanding, and an exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic, enthusiastic, and motivated registered nurse to join our team.

The role includes facilitating hospital discharge and admission avoidance referrals for patients requiring IV therapy treatments at home or in a clinic setting.

You will require excellent communication, planning & organisational skills to lead and support a small team of nurses in the West Sussex area.

Main duties of the job

Act as a clinical resource in IV therapies demonstrating relevant clinical knowledge of IV medication administration and vascular access devices.

Contribute to the development and review of clinical guidelines and policies to underpin safe practice.

Develop and ensure the delivery of consistent standards in IV therapy, IV administration and vascular access device care within Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust.

Provide mentorship within the specialised area of IV therapy .

Be accountable for one's own practice and the practice of those under the post holder's direct supervision.

Work with acute trusts to identify patients suitable for early discharge in the community setting.

Be skilled in cannulation, venepuncture, accessing of all vascular access devices and IV drug administration.

Working in partnership the post holder communicates effectively with patients and their carers, the primary health care team and other key stakeholders on a range of complex health care matters, issues, ideas and situations.

Acts as an information resource for patients, multi-disciplinary colleagues and other stakeholders. Responsible for signposting and referring individuals, families, carers and communities to the most appropriate agencies/services to support their needs.

You will require excellent communication, planning & organisational skills to lead and support a small team of nurses in the West Sussex area.

Full driving license and have use of a car for work.

Job description

Job responsibilities

To deliver elements of the IV therapy education programmes (both practical and theoretical knowledge and skills).

Work with staff and managers to support training needs, participating in the one-to-one teaching, supervision and monitoring of staff competency in IV administration.

Participate in the support, training, and education of patients inself-administration of IV therapy if appropriate.

Deliver IV therapy treatments to patients in their own homes and clinicalsettings manage and co-ordinate daily/weekly treatments in the allocated IV clinics.

Provide support and problem-solving advice regarding issues with vascular access devices to reduce the potential re-admission of patients to hospital.

Qualifications

Essential


  • 3 years experience
  • NMC Registration
  • Evidence of post graduation continuing education

Desirable


  • Cannulation
  • Evidence of teaching
  • Current mentorship qualification
  • Experience in midline placement
  • Experience with ultrasound guided cannula insertion
