Glasgow, United Kingdom Sinara Full time

Sinara Consultants is actively seeking proficient, versatile, and curious application engineers to enhance our technical operations team.

The position entails working beyond standard business hours, including late evenings or overnight shifts. Your responsibilities will include maintaining our mission-critical applications, delivering both primary and secondary application management support within our cloud-based environments, as well as providing third-line functional support for software applications to a variety of customers. The role is remote although you must be based in the UK.

About the Role:

The role entails active monitoring and maintenance of our client's cloud-hosted software applications operationally beyond standard business hours. Additionally, the role involves analyzing, prioritizing, and resolving customer support incidents, which may be cloud-hosted or on-premise client applications. These incidents could relate to applications, data, or systems. The focus of this role is to provide out-of-business-hours application support services, divided across two shifts.

Primary duties include:
  1. Deploying and managing AWS services and other cloud platforms.
  2. Administering containerisation tools and orchestration platforms such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  3. Ensuring operational performance of our applications and environments.
  4. Resolving issues related to applications and environments.
  5. Analyzing and prioritizing incidents reported by customers.
  6. Conducting investigations to provide solutions or temporary workarounds.
  7. Collaborating with developers upon identification of potential software defects.
  8. Communicating with customers until incident resolution.
  9. Transitioning issues to the standard-hours application support team.
Additional responsibilities encompass:
  1. Maintaining our Linux server estate and services.
  2. Performing routine data or system configuration tasks.
  3. Proactively updating support materials.
  4. Contributing to customer service performance reports.
  5. Documenting routine change requests.
  6. Participating in application testing throughout the full test lifecycle.

The work is often technically demanding and requires an imaginative thought process. You will collaborate with Sinara’s own software development teams.

Your essential skills:

You will possess experience in working during out-of-business hours shifts, focusing on maintaining cloud-hosted environments and software applications. Demonstrating a solid general knowledge of IT concepts along with an exceptional understanding of AWS deployments, and administration of containerisation tools and orchestration platforms is essential.

It would be beneficial to have knowledge in:

  • PostgreSQL (SQLserver, MySql)
  • Interpreting and troubleshooting log files
  • Terraform
  • kubectl
  • K9s
  • Networking

Being self-motivated is crucial, as is the ability to work autonomously, initiate action, and eagerly learn new technologies while taking ownership of business-critical support incidents. Exchanging information and ideas with colleagues and clients who may not share your technical expertise requires excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal.

Your attributes:

To excel in this role, we seek engineers who possess a passion for tackling diverse and complex IT challenges. They should have the aptitude and dedication to rapidly acquire new technical abilities and assimilate fresh domain knowledge as necessary. While our operations are within the financial sector, prior experience in this field is not mandatory. Ideal candidates are naturally curious, collaborative team players, and problem solvers. They are self-driven, capable of independent initiative, and consistently consider the broader context and potential ramifications of the issues at hand. They take pride in their work, exhibiting exceptional attention to detail, coupled with proficient time management and organizational skills.

Career progression: Industry knowledge training

This position is focused on cloud infrastructure specialization, where you will be expected to evolve into a subject matter expert within the organization. Comprehensive training will be provided as needed. Sinara will provide training on industry/domain-specific topics and applications.

What we offer:

Sinara offers a competitive salary and benefits package, which includes a profit-related bonus, 25 days of holiday, and a pension plan.

Working hours:

This position is full-time, requiring 37.5 to 45 hours of work per week and is available for remote work.

About Sinara:

Sinara is a well-established software house based in London, offering software development services and products to exchanges, financial institutions, and market data vendors. We provide robust technical expertise and adopt a pragmatic, flexible approach to delivering and supporting business-critical IT systems. Our location is just south of Tower Bridge in the bustling Bermondsey district, with its excellent transport connections, including quick and easy access to London Bridge.

As an equal opportunities employer, we invite applications from all suitably qualified individuals, regardless of race, gender, disability, age, religion or belief, sexual orientation, or relationship status.

To Apply:

Please send your CV, along with a cover letter to recruitment@sinara.co.uk with Overnight Application Engineer in the subject line and our recruitment team will be in touch.
