Derby Derbyshire, United Kingdom Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust Full time

This is an exiting time to work for Derbyshire Healthcare. We are currently undertaking a programme to create purpose-built facilities to improve the safety, privacy and dignity for our adult acute mental health patients, by eradicating dormitory accommodation. As part of the programme, we are creating a new state of the art Enhanced Care Unit (ECU) on our Kingsway Hospital, Derby site.

This will be an 8 bedded unit to support female patients who require a higher intensity of service and higher security than is available on an acute mental health ward, but do not meet the criteria for access to PICU services. The unit will improve the acute service delivery pathway by maintaining a maximum length of stay of under 8 week and achieving an average length of stay between 39 and 48 days. The unit is due to open in approximately November 2024, therefore this will be a great opportunity for you to shape the service and build your own team.

You will work alongside an Area Service Manager to establish and develop this new service for Derbyshire and collaborate with an innovative and forward-thinking programme team and senior leaders to design the operational structure, staffing model and clinical pathways.
As Ward Manager you will be responsible for the day to day operational and clinical management of the female ECU. You will ensure the team provides safe, effective therapeutic care within a specialist newly purpose-built ward environment.

The unit will support female patients aged 18+ years who have a diagnosis of emotionally unstable personality disorder, or other personality disorder diagnosis, bipolar, psychosis and who may be detained formally or informally under the Mental Health Act. You will lead the and support the wider MDT to create a safe and stable environment where we are able to acknowledge our patient's cultures, life experiences, protected characteristics and their strengths to help promote their recovery.
Join 'Team Derbyshire Healthcare' and become part of a talented, compassionate and enthusiastic workforce committed to a vision of 'making a positive difference in people's lives'.

CQC rated us as 'GOOD' overall, commenting on how our colleagues treated patients with compassion and kindness and felt positive and proud about working for the Trust.

Commitment to flexible working where this is possible
~27 days annual leave/year plus bank holidays, increasing to 29 days after 5 years & 33 days after 10 years' service
~ Generous NHS pension scheme
~ Health service discounts and online benefits
~ Free confidential employee assistance programme 24/7
~ Access to our LGBT+ Network, Disability and Wellness Group, BME Staff Support Network, Armed Forces Network, Women's Network, Multi-Faith Forum and Christian Network
~ Health and wellbeing opportunities
~ Structured learning and development opportunities

The culture and ethos of approach within our ECU is aimed at ensuring that co-production of care with our patients is an essential and key part of their recovery journey. The MDT will involve both the patients, their carers, alongside clinicians and specialist practitioners as well as external agencies to ensure that individual recovery care plans are individual, co-produced, therapeutic and effective.

As this is a new service you will be responsible for leading on recruitment and selection campaigns for the unit along with the Area Service Manager, conducting interviews, making job offers and on-boarding applicants prior to commencing in role. You will also identify training programs for the staff, ensuring all team members receive necessary training, education and support prior to the unit opening.
