Assistant Headteacher

Dunbar Education is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Assistant Head Teacher to join our SEN school community. As an Assistant Head Teacher, you will play a crucial role in promoting a culture of inclusion, fostering positive school experiences for all pupils, and upholding educational standards to prepare our students for their next phase of education and life.

Create a positive and enriching school environment for pupils.
Uphold educational standards to prepare pupils for future success.
Encourage high standards of engagement and self-regulation from pupils, with a focus on meeting individual needs and promoting neurodiversity-affirming strategies.
Ensure high levels of pupil attendance and foster a culture of safety, enjoyment, and engagement with learning.
Serve as a role model, demonstrating high standards of teaching and promoting high expectations for all members of the school community.
Support the senior leadership team in monitoring and evaluating teaching and learning quality, including conducting lesson visits to ensure consistency.
Promote inclusive practices to ensure all pupils can access the curriculum effectively.
Provide high-quality teaching for pupils following a non-subject specific curriculum.
Maintain ambitious expectations for all pupils with significant or severe learning difficulties, autistic spectrum disorder, speech, language, and communication difficulties.
Recognise that pupils are likely to have a combination of special educational needs.
Lead and manage the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Behaviour Support Plans (BSPs) to support SEN pupils in their learning and social development.
Utilise a range of teaching strategies and resources to meet the diverse needs of SEN pupils, including differentiated instruction, multisensory learning, and assistive technology.
Monitor and assess the progress of SEN pupils, providing regular feedback to inform instructional planning and intervention strategies.
Work closely with external agencies, including Educational Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists, and Occupational Therapists, to provide holistic support for SEN pupils.
Lead and participate in multi-disciplinary meetings and reviews to ensure effective collaboration and coordination of support for SEN pupils.
Provide guidance and support to teaching staff in implementing inclusive practices and adapting the curriculum to meet the needs of SEN pupils.
Contribute to the development and review of school policies and procedures related to SEN provision, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and best practice guidelines.
