Job Description

Head of UK Business

The UK Head of Business role is primarily responsible for developing a strong network of motorcycle apparel dealers that will stock and promote the Merlin apparel line. These Merlin stockists may come from motorcycle franchises that have clothing departments or from clothing only store operations.

The network should achieve several criteria, including but not limited to local accessibility for the Merlin consumer, hierarchy of dealer types who provide strong representation and commitment to Merlin that ensures they are able to help with technical product information and explain the ‘bang for buck’ attributes of a Merlin product.

Over time the UK Sales Manager is likely to recruit either areas sales managers or area agents to ensure the Merlin stockist network is well served and loved by the Merlin operational infrastructure.

As a UK brand, and despite the huge growth in ‘digital’ operators the store network continues to be seen as the ‘shop window’ of reference for our growing network of international partners.The UK network should be our gold standard of dealer networks where international visitors can see first hand how networks can and are built by Merlin.

The Company

The global motorcycle apparel industry has been dominated by brands who have been in the market for a minimum of 20 years, many are 40- to 50-year-old brands. It is within this backdrop that Merlin has progressed strongly as the new brand entrant over the past ten or so years. The business currently doubles in size each third or fourth year.

The business has remained privately funded and has built growth through organic cashflows. With strong annual growth, double digit EBITDA and strong operational controls Merlin is a well-managed and respected brand in the motorcycle market.

The UK is Merlin’s home market where the best of standards should be found. This best of standards should shine at their brightest in the Hero dealer network of TMP.

Merlin has over 125 products covering the following categories Explorer, Heritage, Leisure Moto, Lifestyle, Luggage and Essentials.

Key ‘role’ deliverables

  • To establish the appropriate network of Merlin stockists to allow the Merlin consumer access within a reasonable travel time
  • Ensure the mix of network meets the right blend of ‘hero’ and standard stockist tiers
  • A strategic plan to seek and deliver new business development
  • The support and lead for our UK Sales Merchandisers
