CDDFT Podiatry Department are looking for an enthusiastic and committed Podiatrist to join our diverse team.
The post holder will work collaboratively as part of the inpatient team to deliver specialist podiatric care to people admitted to County Durham and Darlington Foundation Trust to meet the standards set by NICE NG 19 (2019).
There is a potential there maybe more band 7 or 6 hours available with this role.
Take a clinical lead role for a specialist area of inpatient podiatry work within:
Diabetes and Tissue Viability
Provides specialist podiatry advice both within and externally to the Trust
Undertake training of other staff and students
Lead by example on service transformation activity and maintain the Teams focus on continuous service improvement and value for money
Assess foot wounds/tissue breakdown of all patients identified by ward staff, AMU, A & E, SDEC , either identified on admission or throughout stay (including pressure damage)
Provide Specialist Podiatry input in the care plan of Diabetic Foot pathology, particularly in regards to debridement, antibiotics, dressings and offloading/Pressure relief.
Attend ward huddle and liaise with other disciplines for patients that require an MDT approach (including Diabetologist, Vascular Consultant, Microbiology, Orthopaedics where appropriate).
Be the link between Inpatient (medical and surgical teams) and Outpatient care for patients with Diabetic foot complications to ensure appropriate follow-up on discharge locally and the pathway of care between community/primary care and secondary care is as seamless as possible
Plan and deliver Diabetic foot care education to healthcare professionals (formalised training e.g. tissue viability/diabetes nurses training days etc.) and ad-hoc individualised training to ward staff, student nurses etc. We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

To be responsible for the assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation of podiatric care for patients within a caseload of diabetes and tissue viability patients
To provide appropriate podiatric health education to patients and carers
To work across acute, community and primary health care sectors as part of a multidisciplinary team with direct input to patient care providing advice to patients and carers
Assist in the collection of data for National Diabetes audits including Diabetic
Foot audit and devise local audits to determine impact of the Inpatient
Involvement in route cause analysis of
Graduation from a School of Podiatric Medicine
Under graduate experience of a broad range of podiatric conditions
Substantial experience in the high risk foot, diabetes and Tissue Viability

BSc (Hons) in Podiatric Medicine
Local Analgesia Certificate

Non-medical prescribing qualification
Post graduate qualifications

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal, including persuasive and reassurance skills which are essential in the effective communication of complex and sensitive information to patients and in communication with other health care professionals.
