This is an opportunity to join our established Adult Physiotherapy inpatient team at University Hospital North Durham. We are looking for an applicant with knowledge and skills in acute orthopaedics including cardiorespiratory management and rehabilitation of inpatients. This is an opportunity for a highly motivated and flexible individual to join the team. The successful applicant will work as part of the wider inpatient team to cover the trauma and elective orthopaedic wards including the day surgical unit. The role includes working as part of the wider inpatient physiotherapy team. The inpatient team provides physiotherapy to a diverse range of patients over a 7 day service framework and a respiratory on call service overnight.
The clinical case load includes covering the orthopaedic specialties as required by team leaders to meet demands of the inpatient capacity. The successful applicant will work closely with the orthopaedic MDT and the ortho-geriatricians as well as the wider therapy teams in the community and community hospitals. The successful applicant will utilise their outstanding organisation and communication skills in order to support with timely discharge from the acute setting whilst achieving physiotherapy outcomes.
We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

The team is supported by two team leads at UHND, with each of the three inpatient physiotherapy teams at CDDFT having an orthopaedic specialist team lead. The post holder will be responsible for supervising band 3 and 4 physiotherapy assistants and band 5 junior physiotherapists. The successful applicant will support students at an undergraduate level as a clinical educator.
The trust has a multitude of learning and development opportunities available as well as education links with Teesside and other local universities. The role provides opportunities to be involved with clinical research.
The team are very committed to providing a robust in-service training programme which the post holder will be encouraged to take an active part in developing, leading and benefitting from sessions towards maintaining CPD. The post holder will have the opportunity to work with peers and team leaders across the CDDFT sites to develop the physiotherapy service in the inpatient physiotherapy team.
We are able to consider developmental roles of band 5 to band 6 progression.
BSc Physiotherapy or equivalent
Evidence of CPD maintained in a portfolio including attendance at recent post-graduate courses relevant to the clinical fields in the specialism.
Recognised relevant academic qualification.
An understanding of County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust, its culture, strategic direction, achievements and NHS standing.
Evidence of working on strategic planning and development.


Understand clinical governance and its implications for services, including experience of quality issues and audit.
Ability to comprehend and work within the Trusts policies of data protections, equal opportunities and health and safety and meet the differing needs of the patients.
Understand the legal responsibilities of the profession.
Healthcare related committee membership, e.g. Flexible.
