Please note salary is based on Umbrella rates* Overview: As a Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO), you will play a critical role in safeguarding children within our community. Your primary responsibility will be to oversee and manage all allegations of abuse against individuals who work with children, ensuring that appropriate actions are taken to safeguard children and promote their welfare. You will work collaboratively with various agencies and professionals to investigate allegations, provide guidance, and support the implementation of safeguarding procedures. Key Responsibilities: 1. System Leadership in Safeguarding:

  • Act as a system leader for safeguarding children and young people across the area, championing best practices and fostering collaboration among stakeholders.
  • Lead the management of allegations through the Position of Trust process, ensuring that adults in all sectors who pose a risk of harm to children are appropriately identified and managed in accordance with statutory requirements.
2. Relationship Management:
  • Manage a diverse range of sensitive relationships across Directorates, including Children’s Services, Clean & Green, and Leisure Services.
  • Foster effective partnerships with external agencies such as schools, early years providers, health services, police, charities, and voluntary groups at local, regional, and national levels.
3. Collaboration with HR Services and Partnerships:
  • Work collaboratively with HR services and across partnership agencies to ensure robust safeguarding procedures and practices are implemented.
  • Engage with statutory providers and other stakeholders to ensure compliance with safeguarding requirements within their respective sectors.
4. Risk Management and Communication:
  • Ensure that senior leaders are kept fully informed of safeguarding situations that may have adverse publicity implications.
  • Manage communications effectively, providing timely updates and advice to mitigate risks and maintain public trust and confidence in safeguarding measures.
5. Knowledge Management and Training:
  • Maintain current knowledge of national safeguarding policy, guidance, and learning from reviews for children, updating the Learning and Development Programme accordingly.
  • Stay informed of statutory developments and requirements for other statutory providers, ensuring that safeguarding practices align with legislative changes and best practices.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Qualification in Social Work or a related field.
  • Extensive experience in safeguarding or child protection roles, with a comprehensive understanding of statutory requirements and best practice principles.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to manage sensitive information and handle complex situations with discretion and professionalism.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, and guidance related to safeguarding children and young people.
  • Experience in training delivery and knowledge dissemination within multi-agency settings is desirable.
