Electrical Cable Engineer (Forensic Test Focus) Location: Cheshire Type: Permanent Salary: 50K - 65K Russell Taylor is working with a well-established Electrical Engineering company based on the Wirral who have a unique and exciting position available for an Electrical Cable Engineer (With a forensic focus) to join a forward-thinking company where welfare is at the forefront of priorities. The ideal candidate could be anywhere from someone starting their career or an experienced professional looking to take the next step up. You will be delivering forensic and failure investigations with a primary focus on LV / MV / HV cable systems. There will be both office-based projects and practical laboratory work. The Role:

  • Conduct forensic projects to Electrical Power Cable Systems (LV / MV / HV), determining the root cause of issues / failures; following up with practical reports to reduce future incidents.
  • Provide expert opinions on Cabling Systems across the Forensics division.
  • Build and develop relationships with customers within the cable industry; take lead with identifying new business opportunities.
• Typical investigations:
  • Analysis of cable compliance (BS / IEC Standards)
  • Assessment of polymeric cable dielectrics (Voids, oxidations, inclusions etc...)
  • Assessment of paper cable systems for signs of failure
  • Failure investigations (Cable joints, cable terminations, HV sealing ends etc…)
  • Role will include assisting the running of the laboratories (Training will be provided)
Essential Skills
  • Electrical Engineering Degree or equivalent
  • Electrical experience from a relevant industry (Such as electrical utility or cable manufacturing)
  • Excellent analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills with a good attention to detail.
  • Be able to maintain a high level of consistency to ensure consistent test standards.
  • Work to deadlines and manage own calendar.
  • Take a practical approach to assessments and testing.
  • The knowledge of power systems plant and it's operation.
  • An in-depth knowledge / understanding of cabling systems (Design and construction of power cables, joints etc : electrical field distributions; common failures; partial discharge and its significance in the degradation of cabling systems.)
  • How to sperate observations following failure from the root cause failure.
  • Knowledge of potential risks and mitigation factors.
  • Some experience with high voltage testing would be desirable.
