Hello, My client is looking for an R&D Manager based in Omagh, due to expansion. GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY: The R&D manager is responsible for delivering the R&D strategy for the company. They will work closely with the Head of engineering, sales and end users identifying key areas of product development. SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Work closely with sales & end users to identify key areas of product development.
  • Have a good understanding of competitors’ products and identify gaps in the market.
  • Be forward thinking, identifying new trends and technology that could be utilized within the aggregates industry.
  • Project planning for new products/product improvements from conceptual stage through to first production.
  • Develop Product Design Specifications and ensure regular reviews to make sure all targets are met or surpassed.
  • Develop product concepts in-line with the PDS and cost targets.
  • Perform cost feasibility analysis, risk analysis and benchmarking to competitors.
  • Attending conferences and presenting topics to customers or internal stakeholders.
  • Responsible for design, verify and release of new designs including 3D CAD models & drawings, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems.
  • Carry out critical stress analysis using both theoretical and Computer aided (FEA) methods.
  • People Management and development - Responsible for training and development of existing team. Mentor junior team members.
  • Setting team goals and KPI’s and ensuring they are met.
  • Carry out and implement prototype testing on site and in factory to ensure successful completion.
  • Ensure all new products meet all compliance requirements for intended markets and compilation of associated technical file.
  • Work closely with production/technical teams to improve current best practices and processes.
  • Prepare/write up grant aid for new products including recording of time for grant claims and R&D tax credits.
  • Willingness to travel (approx. 10%).
  • Report all accidents, incidents or near misses to the Supervisor.
  • Observe all legislated H&S regulations as well as established workplace safety procedures.
  • Cooperate with the Joint Health & Safety Committee in any Safety Program Review.
  • Works in compliance with all Administrative, Health & Safety policies and procedures as per legislative requirements and as outlined in Company policies.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: The successful applicant will be educated to an Honours (BSc or BEng) degree level in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent with 8 years plus experience working in New Product Development within the aggregates industry, ideally Crushing and Screening. Must be proficient in MS Office (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project). Previous 3D & 2D CAD experience is essential, preferably using Pro-Engineer or Creo. Experience in design of Hydraulic and Electrical Systems. Finite Element Analysis experience desirable. Strong project management skills. Good awareness of the development and manufacturing infrastructure internationally. Good financial and budgetary planning. Excellent organizational skills, ability to prioritize work and systematic approach to tasks. Thorough / attention to detail; excellent report writing skills required. Strong work ethic: Highly self-motivated, self-driven, “can-do attitude” and ability to multitask. Accountable and Responsible to established timelines and goals. Experience of working collaboratively with a range of departments. Problem solving skills essential. Proficiency in speaking, comprehending, reading, and writing English is required. Benefits:
