United Kingdom Nationwide Full time

COO Operational Excellence is an exciting, dynamic and fast paced team responsible for managing and delivering successful business change predominantly in COO. We strive to optimise the Operations within Nationwide through eliminating wasteful practises, reducing costs and increase productivity. The Push For Better portfolio is a portfolio of change managed by the team focussed on improving performance and driving efficiency across a wide range of stakeholders from across COO. Everything we do aims to help COO become Focussed, Fit and Fast to make a real difference to our customers and employees.

The portfolio includes a broad range of diverse initiatives and focuses on improving the way Nationwide operates to increase performance and drive efficiency. The projects range across business, operational and people change activity and are typically from inception through to closure; with a requirement to manage or support the full change lifecycle. The team therefore operate from strategic shaping of projects through to project execution and closure. The team specialises in manging the end-to-end delivery of organisation and people impacting change projects.

At Nationwide we offer hybrid working wherever possible. More rewarding relationships are supported through our hybrid approach, bringing colleagues together across our UK wide estate, whilst also supporting generous access to home working. We value our time in the office to solve problems, to learn, and to feel connected.

For this job you'll spend at least two days per week, or if part time you'll spend 40% of your working time, at one of our offices. If your application is successful, your hiring manager will provide further details on how this works. You can also find out more about our approach to hybrid working here .

If we receive a high volume of relevant applications, we may close the advert earlier than the advertised date, so please apply as soon as you can.

Who we are looking for

In this fast paced role you will lead and support (depending on size of project) the delivery of projects throughout the full change lifecycle within the Push for Better portfolio within COO. The role can be very varied and at times require navigation through ambiguous problems to create structure and find a solution. You will have the opportunity to both shape and mature the portfolios backlog of initiatives as well as manage change through to delivery and benefits realisation. You’ll lead and work within multi-disciplined teams to ensure change is effectively and sensitively delivered at pace and to high standards, is implemented in a considered and controlled manner and the benefits and outcomes of the change are fully realised. It will be your responsibility to ensure stakeholders remain well-informed and the projects you manage are accurately reported as part of the broader portfolio.

  • Through resourcefulness, strategic thinking, research, analysis and stakeholder insight, form and communicate clear project scope documents which capture objectives, key results, scope, timeline, approach and dependencies – to enable greater maturity in the portfolios pipeline.
  • Lead and deliver both local and strategic change initiatives across COO which will be strategically important, complex and at times ambiguous.
  • Implement change with optimal efficiency and effectiveness to support the Push for Better portfolio. Mobilise a matrix team and provide the structure, governance, support and challenge required to achieve project outcomes within agreed timescales and quality.
  • Build and manage key stakeholder relationships from across the business to influence the delivery and outcomes of this portfolio of change.
  • Identify and mitigate risks and issues that could impact the delivery of the project and be detrimental to our members, escalating as appropriate.
  • Represent the Operational Excellence team at project / programme board level to drive forward delivery, influence decision making and ensure alignment with Push for Better portfolio.

Improve the quality of the change management practise across the Operational Excellence team through active learning and knowledge sharing

Why work for us?

Nationwide is the world’s largest building society. With over 15 million customers, we have a relationship with almost a quarter of the UK’s population. We’ve got the scale to compete with the big banks, but we’re not a bank.

As a building society, we’re owned by our members – that’s our customers who have their current account, mortgage or savings with us. It means we can do things differently to deliver our Purpose – Banking – but fairer, more rewarding, and for the good of society.

When you work at Nationwide, you can experience that difference for yourself. You’ll be part of a high-performing, purpose-driven organisation that offers rewarding career experiences and a highly competitive range of benefits to match. You’ll also be joining us at an important time as we seek to reach more and more people in the UK. We want everyone in the UK to know that they don’t have to bank with a bank. They can choose a modern mutual instead. #J-18808-Ljbffr
