SUMMARY
To provide a package of practical and emotional support that meets the individual needs of children and young people aged 5 and upwards, using the services at the Pathway Project within our refuges, and in the local community. Where required to provide appropriate support to non-abusive parents around child safeguarding issues and contact, that puts the needs of the child as the primary concern. To build support plans and needs assessments based on the voice of the child/young person. To manage the children’s team, and to work alongside the ISC manager to ensure the safe running of the Children’s service. The post holder must have a comprehensive understanding of OFSTED.

MAIN DUTIES

  • To provide one-to-one emotional support for C&YP suffering the effects of domestic abuse in the community. This will be a programme built around individual needs to build self-esteem, confidence and safe expression of feelings.
  • To attempt to empower and support C&YP and, where appropriate, their non-abusive parent in making their own decisions and taking control of their lives, including supporting the mother in her relationship with the children where appropriate
  • To support the Refuge team in organising recreational activities including creative play schemes and activities for different age groups, and assisting and organising day trips in the holidays.
  • To work with C&YP around behavioural needs linked to trauma around loss, separation and domestic abuse.
  • To provide and arrange practical assistance for C&YP and, where appropriate, with their non-abusive parent, including advocacy and liaison with other agencies e.g. schools, education welfare, voluntary agencies and Social Services.
  • To support C&YP with issues and feelings around court and contact. Where necessary to be the advocate for that C&YP.

  • To provide group work around healthy relationships and friendships, and where appropriate and required, to deliver this at alternative venues and agencies.
  • To deliver safety planning sessions to C&YP in the refuges around issues such as using social media safely, mobile phones and images, CSE, drugs and alcohol safety.
  • To assist with multi-agency awareness days and sessions in the local community and schools.
  • To consult with C&YP in planning activities and events, and in the general running of the services.
  • To provide a strong internal referral service between the Children’s Team and the Young Women and Girls Worker, to provide a joint working approach to issues.
  • To raise awareness of the Pathway Project and the work we do for local organisations and agencies.
  • To attend any local, or county children and young people’s meetings and to contribute to those agendas.
  • To ensure the Child Protection Policy is followed and to be the appointed Designated Safeguarding Lead within the organization and liaise regularly with managers, Safeguarding Leads, Operations Director and CEO, over any concerns.

ADMINISTRATION

  • To monitor, update and make accessible information about local agencies and community resources, relating to C&YP.
  • To keep appropriate records of C&YP, using the specialist case management and data system, Oasis OnTrack.
  • To produce individual needs assessments for every C&YP.
  • To complete PoWer forms for all C&YP.
  • To produce any reports and monitoring as required by funding bodies, or other organisations. To link into any reports Pathway wants to produce.
  • To contribute to the website or social media, as and when required.
  • Participate in regular staff meetings, both at The Hope Centre and with the Children’s Team. Ensure that decisions taken regarding your area of children’s work are followed up as appropriate.
  • To have input into changes in the delivery of the service the Children’s Team runs and the business plan.
  • Ensure all relevant Health and Safety regulations are complied with.
  • Attend appropriate training and maintain Safeguarding training at all levels.
  • To support the work of the Children’s Team as a whole.
  • To attend case conferences, core groups, TAF’s and CAF’s with other agencies as required e.g. Social Services, Education welfare.

AWARENESS RAISING

  • To develop links with community resources that will enhance the work undertaken in the community with C&YP.
  • To undertake the delivery of training within local agencies and services, regarding healthy relationships and domestic abuse, where required.
  • To attend networking events that further promote the work of the Pathway Project and the Children’s Team.
  • To commit to at least three fundraising/awareness-raising events a year – these may be out of normal working hours, but time will be given in lieu.

GENERAL

Other duties as required from time to time in the interests of the effective provision of C&YP for the organisation. This job description may be subject to review and amendment. The post holder will be expected to be flexible in their development of the job, and will participate fully, where possible, in all discussions about the nature of their work and the tasks involved. The post holder must have a commitment to the aims of the Pathway Project, and uphold all agreed policies and procedures.

The post holder must hold appropriate qualifications – Minimum requirements Level 4 Safeguarding /relevant job experience to undertake this job role.
