An exciting opportunity for a Band 7 Nuclear Medicine Physicist to join a dynamic team providing physics support to St. George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The Nuclear Medicine department has two Siemens Intevo SPECT/CTs, one Siemens Symbia SPECT, two gamma counters, and multiple gamma probes. A radioiodine therapy service is managed and delivered by Physics. Additionally, support to external departments and a fleet of PET/CT mobiles. The department is an avid supporter of STP training, and you will have the opportunity to actively contribute to training. The role would suit a recent STP graduate, those nearing completion, or those imminently due to obtain HCPC registration via alternative routes.
This post holder works as part of a team providing Medical Physics support to the Nuclear Medicine Department as part of the Nuclear Medicine Physics Group.
# The postholder provides specialized clinical scientific and technical services and computing support to diagnostic and therapy services in the Nuclear Medicine Department.
# Direct patient contact is with patients undergoing radionuclide therapy and when giving individual radiation protection advice.
# The postholder also supports other scientific staff in the provision of a Medical Physics service to external sites. This includes nuclear medicine and PET-CT services at both mobile and fixed site facilities.
# This involves performing calibrations and quality assurance, developing clinical imaging protocols, service development, and research projects.

Good (1st or 2nd class) Honours degree in a relevant scientific discipline
MSc in Physics or Medical Physics [or equivalent]
IPEM Diploma or equivalent in Medical Physics
PhD in Physics

Experience of Research and Development methodology and experienced in writing scientific and technical reports

High-level language computer programming

Able to quickly gather data and evaluate information to provide immediate problem-solving support to other professionals in Nuclear Medicine, such as to deal with equipment fault issues, or patient study problems, or to deal rapidly with non-standard issues in instrumentation testing
Able to communicate Medical Physics-based information clearly, for day-to-day support to non-clinical scientists and other physics group members, and able to influence other professionals to follow advice
Able to control electro-mechanical computer-controlled imaging systems, for testing and support during patient studies
Able to plan and execute a personal contribution to scientific research projects, following good scientific method, and contributing scientific input to multi-disciplinary projects
Able to present scientific papers at national and international conferences
Able to teach and train other professionals and trainees
