To support the Trust in reducing the incidence of healthcare associated infections through risk assessment, surveillance, audit, intervention and education.


To be an effective role model that inspires and motivates others, empowering them to ensure all IPC policies and procedures are followed.


Participate in communication networks and collaborative working relationships with key personnel eg: Matrons, ward Mangers, Microbiology, Estates and Facilities and Occupational Health.

Contribute to specific operational programmes in order to achieve a high level of compliance with national guidance for infection prevention and control, including The Health and Social Care Act (2008): Code of Practice on the prevention and control of infections.


~ Participate in work pertaining to the managed reduction of rates and numbers of healthcare-associated infection.


~ Support the monitoring of rates and types of infection within the Trust by collating and sometimes analysing infection surveillance and audit data.


~ Participate in infection prevention and control policies and guidelines related work in order to improve staff practice and safe patient care.


~ Participate in a clinical programme of education and training in all aspects of infection prevention and control.


~ Contribute to the body of knowledge that exists regarding the transmission of healthcare associated infection both locally and nationally.


~ Minimum of diploma level healthcare qualification
Other healthcare qualification/s
Experience working in an acute healthcare organisation
Computer literate and use of spreadsheets, databases and word-processing to create specialist reports
