Job Purpose

The role will support and assist in ensuring the provision of a professional payroll and pension service for West Midlands Combined Authority staff, Councillors, Pensioners and staff covered under SLA’s are paid accurately and timely.

Job Responsibilities
  • To develop expertise and competence in the understanding of payroll and pensions.
  • Support in the maintenance of the payroll system, via the input of payroll information.
  • Understand processes and support requirements to be able to respond to payroll and pension queries promptly and amend as necessary.
  • Assist in the calculation of financial reconciliations required for payroll.
  • Assist in the administration process for corporate credit cards and expenses, ensuring compliance to the Travel & Expenses Policy
  • Assist in the assessment of off-payroll workers to determine their employment status in relation to the Intermediaries Legislation (IR35)
  • Updating of documentation/administration duties as required.
  • To complete the level 3 Assistant Accountant apprenticeship within the qualification timeline of 18 months. As part of the qualification, you will be required to gain experience to complete elements such as monthly and year end reporting, maintaining financial records, safeguarding against suspicious activities e.g. anti-money laundering, compilation of accounting and financial records, delivering information to stakeholders, maintaining and using digital systems, collaborating with others.
Skills Required
  • Good analytic skills
  • Ability to review information and determine the best approach
  • Ability to communicate effectively through email- and face to face
  • Ability to use a computer
  • Awareness of MS Word, Excel and other office packages
Personal Qualities
  • Has some experience of working in customer focused environment
  • Ability to work in a team setting to support wider team objectives
  • Ability to work in an independent way with flexible working arrangements (mix of working from home and office)
