Join Our Team as a Lead Mechanical Engineer – Product Assurance Location: Barrow-in-Furness We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements – be sure to discuss your options with your recruiter Salary: Circa £55,000 What You’ll Be Doing: As a Lead Mechanical Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in delivering high-level engineering assurance across our cutting-edge BAE Systems Maritime Submarines products. Your contributions will ensure integrity across major Submarine Enterprise programmes. Plan and Prioritize: Use a risk-based approach to optimize assurance activities while adhering to the Submarines Engineering Product Assurance Framework. Lead Assurance Reviews: Bring your SQEP expertise to validate design decisions, technical bids, and engineering evidence. Ensure Safety and Compliance: Guarantee that products are safe, compliant, cost-effective, and fully integrated, with hazards demonstrated ALARP. Provide Independent Oversight: Offer objective judgment aligned with mandated engineering frameworks and policies during design and technical reviews. Collaborate Across Teams: Influence outcomes and shape product quality by working closely with engineering and wider business teams. Act as a Safety Advocate: Provide impartial technical support and challenge designs from a fresh, safety-focused perspective. Your Skills and Experiences: Degree in Mechanical Engineering: Preferred, but strong experience in design and/or commissioning will also be considered. Hands-On Experience: Proficient with event reporting systems, identifying issues, investigating root causes, and driving effective resolutions. Proven Capability: Experience in design proving, taking projects through verification, validation, and successful commissioning. Strong Knowledge: Familiarity with design reviews, audits, change management, and resolving complex technical challenges. Solid Mechanical Engineering Background: Practical experience across design, testing, and commissioning activities. You’ll shape key elements of the assurance schedule and gain hands-on insight into evidence from audits, inspections, reviews, tests, and trials. Your work will be varied and engaging, producing clear technical briefings, supporting issue investigations, and tracking progress through our Concerns and Best Practice System.
