Midlands Connect have a 12-month fixed term contract, for a seasoned Data Analyst to join their dynamic strategy and insights team. This pivotal role will play a key part in establishing a robust data analyst function within the organisation, contributing significantly to data innovation and providing the essential evidence base for the Midlands Connect Strategy Transport Plan.
This multifaceted role involves creating and managing the tools necessary for the business's operations. You'll collaborate closely with transport planners and programme managers, comprehensively understanding their needs, and providing support in the implementation process. As a valued member of our expanding team, you will actively contribute to various transport related projects. Your responsibilities will encompass a spectrum of technical techniques, including acquiring and storing spatially enabled data, as well as conducting geo-spatial data analytics. These skills will empower you to offer objective advice, enhancing the effectiveness of our strategy.
To be successful in this role we require a creative technical minded individual who is thorough, detail orientated, results driven and has a good knowledge of geo-spatial data.
What will you be doing?

  • Analyse data using a range of tools and techniques.
  • Carry out research, gather data and perform analysis and calculations to support the development of intelligence and management information.
  • Act as a lead delivery resource on project work streams.
  • Monitor systems, processes and practices.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across Midlands Connect to ensure the technical services provided to the organisation are efficient, effective and support wider business objectives.
  • Pro-active in your approach to learning new data analytical techniques.
  • Ensure effective data governance.
  • Support the Data Lead with the identification and application of the right tools and techniques for data collection, analysis and data visualisation.
About you.
  • Good experience in the development and design of databases to integrate data from various sources.
  • Good working experience in communicating/presenting/reporting complex data analytics concisely and to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Good knowledge of spatial analysis
  • Working experience in the use of databases to manage, analyse and report information.
  • Ability to work on own initiative, prioritising work to meet demands.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Good communication and presentation skills.
  • Proven experience utilising scripting languages for automation and tool development

Salary and benefits. We advertise salary ranges for job roles, with new appointments typically starting at the lowest salary point. In exceptional cases, where higher skill levels or experience are applicable, the salary point may be adjusted to secure the best candidate. Hybrid working, location and working pattern. Hybrid working means having flexibility between working in the office and at home on agreed days, where a role allows. This is agreed between an employee and their line manager, considering the business, team, and employee needs.
The location for this role is Alpha Tower, Suffolk Street Queensway, Birmingham, B1 1TT. It is expected that you can split your time between the office and working remotely, with at least 2 days spent in the office a week.
