The Specialist Medicine Division is looking for an enthusiastic and substantive consultant post at Barts NHS Trust covering HIV lost to follow up patients, those who have disengaged from care and liaising with the relevant teams and organisations to arrange appointments to be seen in clinic. The lost to follow up clinic is attended by numerous members of the MDT and good team working will be essential for this role. There is also a need for a non-binary/trans sexual health service to be set up and evaluated for the trans communities in East London. The job will also be heavily involved in research in collaboration with the SHARE research team working mainly on trans-related healthcare and long acting antiretroviral therapies.

This is an exciting and important role within the service. New consultants will have access to mentoring if they wish. Barts Health also has networks of mentors and senior clinicians who are available for support and help in this role. We strongly suggest all applicants are aware of how to revalidate and ensure their registration and license is kept up to date.

Qualifications
Essential
  • MBChB or equivalent
  • MRCP
  • Entry on the specialist register with CCT
  • Evidence of on-going professional training and development in HIV medicine

Desirable

  • Dip GUM
  • Other higher degree (e.g. MSc, MD, PhD)
  • DipHIV
  • Management qualification
  • Teaching qualification
  • Research GCP certificate

Registration
Essential

  • Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment

Language skills
Essential

  • Demonstrable skills in written and spoken English that are adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues

Experience
Essential

  • Experience of working in a HIV and sexual and reproductive health setting
  • Evidence of working with staff from different professional disciplines
  • Experience of leading change management and service improvement in clinical services
  • Experience of developing and delivering training to multi-disciplinary professionals
  • Ability to analyse, interpret, manipulate and present complex data
  • Experience of clinical audit
  • Experience at sub-investigator or Principal Investigator level in delivering research trials

Desirable

  • Demonstrable track record of clinical or operational leadership in a complex health environment
  • Experience of leading and managing multidisciplinary teams
  • Publication or conference presentation in a relevant research field (particularly transgender health or long-acting HIV therapy)
  • Evidence of competence or further education related to health inequities or social science
  • Submission of funding applications
  • Successful funding awards
  • Peer-reviewed publications in a relevant field

  • Skills required to manage HIV patients and sexual and reproductive health consultations
  • Ability to clinically assess and provide management of complex PrEP patients
  • Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships within multi-disciplinary team and across different organisations
