Clinks is seeking a senior leader from the voluntary sector with extensive experience of working with people serving, or who have served, long sentences, or on policy related to long sentences, to sit on the Reducing Reoffending Third Sector Advisory Group (RR3).
People serving sentences of 10 years or more, or those with indeterminate sentences, encounter unique challenges during their time in the criminal justice system, including inconsistent support across various stages of their imprisonment and heightened risk of psychological harm leading to increased self-harm rates, as well distinct challenges on their release into the community.
As sentence lengths continue to increase, this new seat on the RR3 will aim to highlight the issues faced by people serving long sentences, both in prison and in the community, as well as advising on the policy and operational context that impacts on people serving long sentences, and following their release, particularly through their accessing of support from voluntary sector organisations.
The main purpose of the RR3 is to build a stronger and more effective partnership between the voluntary sector and the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) and His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS). Members of the RR3 leadership group are senior leaders from the voluntary sector working in criminal justice. Advise on and support the development, and implementation of, policy by the MoJ and other government departments, and other related issues as and when they arise
Provide advice and feedback on the development of commissioning strategies and practice with relevance to the delivery of services for people serving longer sentences
Delivery and policy expertise in relation to support for people serving, or who have servedlonger sentences
Knowledge relevant to the commissioning of services in the CJS, as well as funding and investment models and mechanisms
Able to attend quarterly RR3 meetings (the main quarterly meetings are approximately two hours, between 10am-2pm, and held online, with one in-person meeting per year in Central London) and where appropriate lead or contribute to Special Interest Groups (time-limited groups to advise and develop recommendations on specific areas of policy and practice)
A willingness and ability to act as a representative for, and advocate of, the voluntary sector working in criminal justice, including through regular engagement with nominated policy and operational leads from the MoJ and HMPPS.
Excellent communication skills that allow for the clear representation of key issues to senior government officials
The ability to work collaboratively with other organisations that specialise in working with people on long sentences, both in prison and on their release into the community, to facilitate information sharing, and feed information from the wider sector back to the RR3 group.
The ability to engage with senior officials at the MoJ and HMPPS.
Please note this is a non-renumerated position but reasonable travel and subsistence expenses will be reimbursed.
We would like the successful candidate to attend the next RR3 meeting, which will take place online on Tuesday 11th June, between 10:00am – 2:00pm (exact timings to be confirmed).
