The Development Worker (Improving the Cancer Journey) will be part of the Anti-Poverty Service; specifically, the Improving the Cancer Journey Team (ICJ), and will report to the Team Manager.
The role of the Development Worker will be to actively contribute to the ongoing delivery of the ICJ service, will identify key groups affected by a diagnosis of cancer and will develop targeted campaigns to increase uptake of the service, as well as analysing the impact of these campaigns.
The Development Worker will assist in the delivery of service initiatives, including data collection and analysis and the provision of information on underrepresented groups, which will develop the service into a wide reaching, customer orientated service for people affected by cancer. They will work with a range of local partners to gather information, evidence and data to ensure that stakeholders better understand the effects and consequences of a cancer diagnosis, both nationally and in West Lothian, including delivering training opportunities and workshops.
This post will require the Development Worker to take the lead at local and National groups relating to cancer and to report into the Council, Macmillan and NHS on the delivery of key strategies and action plans.
The successful candidate will support the operational delivery of the project when required by engaging with customers and undertaking a holistic needs assessment. They will be required to support the ICJ Link workers and volunteers.
A good general education to degree level or equivalent or at least three years' experience in a similar area of work, will be required, or the ability to demonstrate significant experience. In addition, excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills including experience of writing reports, as well as an excellent knowledge of the concerns of vulnerable people, especially those affected by cancer.
This post is considered Regulated Work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scotland Act 2007. From 28 February 2011 preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made by West Lothian Council
