Job Description:

Thisis role for a team player and someone with a special interest in working withpeople who live with experiences of psychosis. It is an integral role withinthe MDT and the post holder is a part of the leadership team and someone whohelps to think about team wellbeing.

Itis a really interesting time to be in Early Intervention and this team isaligned with two other teams, in Devon, to think about ways in which weunderstand and respond to national drivers for improving the way that we work.

Thereare senior clinicians in the team who also provide leadership and there arespecialist roles that enable us to support people who use our services to findways to improve their lives.

Thisis a passionate and dedicated team with a long history of taking an holisticview to working with psychotic experiences. They are keen to stay updatedaround research, here and in other countries, and to find ways to innovate andcreate to meet local need.

Thereare experienced team members who you will work with and a group ofpsychological therapists who are keen to support each other, to create asustainable and enjoyable work/life balance.

Youwill be supervised by a senior lead who wants to find the best in you andenable you to develop at your own pace and find ways that you can make a markon the service.

Main duties of the job

Weare focused on developing the psychological model, inline with nationalguidelines and aiming to create change that makes accessing the right kind oftherapy, easier and quicker.

Youwill be a part of service change that understands what people need and thatworks integratively, within the MDT to proactively plan when interventionsmight work best for a person on the caseload.

Youwill help to manage referrals and plan with colleagues, to make sure that theirexperience of recovery is well-planned and co-created.

Youwill deliver high quality therapy and provide supervision and support to othermembers of the team, who are trained and eager to deliver specific interventions.

Youwill support the team to think about the complexity that people who use ourservices, are encountering and enduring; and get to lead and share informulating strengths and coping strategies that respect the journey andbarriers that relate to the individual.

Wework with people across a 3 year span and so we work closely with ourcolleagues to respond to changes in need and to sensitively develop rapport. Wealso work closely with family members, peers, employers andeducational/training colleagues; so this role enables you to utilise all yourstrengths and skills, across a wide range of settings.

Job responsibilities

The principal purpose of the job is to improve thepsychological health & wellbeing of people within the post holdersspecialist field of practice.

This will be achieved in this post through undertaking thefollowing areas of responsibility:

1. To ensure the systematic provision of ahigh quality psychological service in specialist field of practice, acrossidentified locality area, as a key component of integrated mental health andwellbeing services across Devon Partnership NHS Trust.

2. Providing clinical leadership andsupervision for less experienced staff, trainees and volunteers employed by orattached to the psychology service.

3. Carrying a specialist caseload ofclients, and providing advice and consultancy to patients and professionals.

4. To work autonomously withinprofessional guidelines and exercise responsibility for the systematicgovernance of psychological practice within professional andTrust guidelines as lead specialist.

5. The post holder with receive regularprofessional and clinical supervision in accordance to Trust policy and toProfessional Practice Guidelines set out by the British Psychological Societyor appropriate designated Professional Body.

6. Observe,and abide by all relevant Professional Codes of Conduct and Practice includingthe British Psychological Society. The post holder will be fullyregistered with the Health Professions Council as a condition of employment.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • Qualified Clinical or Counselling Psychologist (D.Clin.Psychol. or equivalent) and eligible for Chartered Clinical or Counselling Psychologist Status in the British Psychological Society. Registered with HCPC.
  • Training in at least one NICE approved psychological therapy for psychosis (CBT or Family Work)
  • Further training or experience in Early Intervention approaches to serious mental health problems and working with young people.
  • Training in the provision of supervision.
Experience
  • Broad knowledge of specialist mental health services and of the services in the NHS where psychology and psychotherapy is commonly applied.
  • Extensive knowledge of the skills, practice and knowledge base of Clinical/Counselling Psychology.
  • Knowledge of the policy context of specialist psychological services within the NHS and of clinical leadership arrangements in this setting.
  • Experience of work in adult mental health services or agencies and work with people with severe and complex mental health difficulties.
  • Experience of working with Early Intervention in Psychosis services.
