Job Description:

We are looking to appoint an experienced and enthusiastic Clinical or Counselling Psychologist, on a fixed term, or secondment basis, to our Mother & Baby unit which is located in Exeter.

Main duties of the job

The role includes bringing specialist psychological thinking and support to the the multidisciplinary teams, alongside providing psychological interventions to families who use the service.

Job responsibilities

A principal purpose of this job is to improvethe psychological health and wellbeing of women, who present with severe and complex mental health needs during the perinatal period, and their babies and families.

This will be achieved in this post through undertaking thefollowing areas of responsibility:

Working with the Professional Lead and Service Manager/s to ensure the systematicprovision of a high quality psychological service in the specialist field ofpractice.

Providingclinical leadership and supervision for less experienced staff, trainees andvolunteers employed by or attached to the service.

Carryinga specialist caseload of clients, and providing advice and consultancy topatients and professionals.

Working autonomously within professional guidelines and exercising responsibilityfor the systematic governance of psychological practice within professional andTrust guidelines.

Contributing toservice development and evaluation by undertaking and supporting others toundertake audit and research activities within the service.

Observing,and abiding by all relevant Professional Codes of Conduct and Practice includingthe British Psychological Society. The post holder will be fullyregistered with the Health Care Professions Council or appropriate designatedProfessional Body as a condition of employment.

The post holder with receive regular professional and clinical supervision in accordance to Trust policy and to Professional Practice Guidelines set out by the British Psychological Society or appropriate designated Professional Body.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • Qualified Clinical or Counselling Psychologist (D.Clin.Psychol. or equivalent) and eligible for Chartered Clinical or Counselling Psychologist Status in the British Psychological Society. Registered with HCPC. Psychological Therapists need to be trained to Masters level or equivalent in a specific psychological therapy and registered with an appropriate recognised professional body e.g. UKCP, BABCP.
  • Further training in at least one (other) psychological therapy
  • Further training or experience in Perinatal Mental Health
  • Further training in related area
  • Further training in clinical supervision
Experience
  • Experience in undertaking leadership roles within clinical psychology services in the NHS and in contributing to the development, implementation and evaluation of strategies and clinical policies in multidisciplinary, multi agency contexts.
  • Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment across a wide range of care settings, including outpatient, community, primary care and in patient settings and across the age range
  • Experience of providing psychological services in a multidisciplinary and/or multi agency context
  • Experience of work in adult mental health services or agencies and work with people with severe and complex mental health difficulties.
  • Experience of teaching, training and/or supervision.
  • Experience of working with women with severe and complex mental health difficulties in the perinatal period.
  • Experience, and/or training in diversity awareness and social inequality.
  • Proficiency in both individual and group therapy approaches.
