As a Depot Manager at Biffa,you will play a pivotal role in overseeing the efficient and effectiveoperation of our Tanker depots located in Sheffield, Wednesbury, andBurscough. You will be responsible for managing all aspects of depotactivities, ensuring adherence to company policies, safety protocols,regulatory standards, and transport management regulations, includingcompliance with the Working Time Directive.

  • Operational Management:
  • Supervise day-to-day depot operations, including scheduling,routing, and dispatching of all tankered waste collection activities.
  • Implement strategies toimprove operational processes and enhance productivity.
  • Provideleadership and guidance to depot office and driver staff, fostering aculture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations, coaching, and training todevelop employees and ensure high standards of service delivery.
  • Promote a safe working environment by enforcing safety procedures,conducting safety audits, and addressing any health and safetyconcerns.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships withcustomers and suppliers, addressing inquiries, concerns, and servicerequests in a timely and professional manner.
  • Collaboratewith sales and customer service teams to identify customer needs,develop solutions, and ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Act asa liaison between customers and internal departments to facilitateeffective communication and problem resolution.
  • Managedepot budgets, expenses, and revenue targets, ensuring cost-effectiveoperations and profitability.
  • Analyse financial reports andkey performance indicators to track depot performance and identifyareas for improvement.
  • Implement cost-saving initiatives andrevenue-generating strategies to optimise financial performance.
  • Compliance and Regulatory Compliance:
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations,permits, and industry standards governing waste disposal andtransportation.
  • Oversee documentation and record-keepingprocesses to maintain accurate records and facilitate regulatoryinspections.
  • Stay informed about changes in legislation orindustry regulations and implement necessary updates to ensurecompliance.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in a management role within the waste managementor logistics industry (CPC required).
  • Strong leadershipabilities with excellent communication, interpersonal, anddecision-making skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of waste disposalregulations, safety standards, and best practices.
  • Proficiency in budgeting, financial analysis, and resourcemanagement.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure,prioritise tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Familiarity withindustry-specific software and technology (e.g., routing software,telephony etc).
