Job Description

X4 Technology is offering the opportunity for a Head of Software Engineering to come and work alongside a fast-growing Energy & Commodity trading company, currently undergoing multiple exciting projects during a period of growth.

Responsibilities of the Head of Software Engineering:

  1. Lead, mentor, and grow multiple teams of engineers across different time zones.
  2. Build a strong engineering culture and ensure the team remains motivated, challenged, and aligned with company goals.
  3. Conduct regular performance reviews, provide constructive feedback, and set clear goals for individual and team growth.
  4. Contribute to the development and upkeep of the platform.
  5. Create new features and address issues within a decentralized, microservices architecture, focusing on data integration services, APIs for both end-users and IT systems, real-time data processing, and web applications.
  6. Design, maintain, and enhance tools to ensure optimal visibility across the platform, including user interfaces, analytics, and reporting systems.
  7. Design technical architectures that meet business requirements, overseeing system architecture and technology choices to ensure compliance with design specifications throughout development.
  8. Build robust systems using contemporary software engineering practices, with a focus on automation to improve efficiency, quality, and productivity, including automated testing and continuous integration.

Requirements of the Head of Software Engineering:

  1. Previous experience working with teams across large time zone gaps.
  2. An understanding of the .Net ecosystem, with expertise in event-driven architecture and data processing, utilizing frameworks like Azure Event Hubs or Apache Kafka.
  3. Solid understanding of microservices-based systems, with experience in designing, deploying, and managing distributed services.
  4. Background in investigating, troubleshooting, and developing API systems, including REST and gRPC, as well as familiarity with tools such as Postman.
  5. Experience with both relational and document-based databases, strong SQL skills, and preferred familiarity with Cosmos DB.
  6. Understanding of cloud PaaS and IaaS, preferably Microsoft Azure.
