We currently have opportunities to join the Nursing Bank within Hertfordshire Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (HPFT). In particular we are looking for temporary staff to work at Band 5 level, within our Forensic Services at Beech Ward, Radlett. All roles on the bank are for as and when workers and therefore in particular may suit those already working part-time, with other commitments, or who want to work on a short-term basis.HPFT provides services for service users with mental health, learning disability and children's and adolescent mental health problems. Applicants should have some experience of working in a healthcare setting particularly within mental health services. This Forensic Staff Nurse role is the perfect opportunity for a Band 5 Mental Health Nurse looking to join a supportive multi-disciplinary team in a dynamic and rewarding environment where no two days are the same.


Beech Ward is a 15-bed low-secure service for men with mental illnesses and a history of offending behaviour who are at significant risk of causing harm to others. It offers specialist psychological, psychiatric and behavioural therapies and complex specialist rehabilitation to help patients prepare for their return to life in society.

Actively fulfil the role of Named Nurse for an identified group of service-users, providing a holistic approach to assessment, treatment, review andmanagement of packages of care. Ensure the statutory requirements of the Mental Health Act and MentalCapacity Act are observed and applied at all times. Work flexibly and co-operatively as part of a multi-disciplinary team to deliver quality person-centred care. Assist in the day-to-day smooth running of the unit, providing clinicalsupervision to more junior staff as required. Work with, talk to and listen to service-users, carers and families, andencourage their participation in the recovery process. Treat all colleagues, service-users, carers and relatives with dignity andrespect, and recognise and promote all aspects of cultural diversity. Demonstrate an on-going commitment to continuing professional and service development. Maintain a personal and professional profile in line with NMC revalidation requirements. Manage a caseload and operate as a named health worker to service-users. Provide a person-centred approach integrated within the care planning approach. Carry out clinical nursing procedures/techniques in accordance with the policies and procedures of the Trust, and promote evidence-based clinical standards of practice. Review and communicate service-users risk assessments and management care plans in accordance with Trust policy, ensuring service-user involvement throughout. Provide a nursing perspective and representation on ward rounds and in case conferences etc, and prepare reports on service users as required. Maintain and promote practice within the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act and Hertfordshire Safeguarding Adults frameworks. Ensure the safe management of medicines and their administration, inaccordance with legal, professional and Trust policies and procedures. Complete all service-user data in line with Trust Key Performance Indicators. Maintain appropriate records according to NMC Record Keeping and HPFT Data Quality policy and guidance. Be fully conversant in, and ensure compliance with, NMC codes of conduct and practice, and relevant legislation, policies and procedures.
