Senior Manager - Manufacturing Engineering

An opportunity has arisen for a Senior Manager - Manufacturing Engineering to join the Prototype and Test department in a rapidly expanding and exciting work environment. Reporting into the Head of Prototype Build & Test, you will have responsibility for leading and developing the Manufacturing Engineering team, ensuring Programmes are adequately supported across Power Conversion, Motorsport, Mobility and Heavy Industry business units, enabling fast make early prototyping for zero emission powertrain systems and ensuring Battery Build capital equipment initiatives are managed in line with maintenance and improvement activities.

Job role:

  • Manage the development of new and existing manufacturing processes to ensure delivery of production demand for early prototyping and low volume builds.
  • Size and design a team capable of supporting Programmes, communicating through the relevant channels, and highlighting resource allocation together with constraints and limitations.
  • Lead and manage a team of Engineers, carrying out development reviews, ensuring the team has appropriate training plans in place, anticipating the growth of the team.
  • Develop and manage the manufacturing engineering budget, ensuring optimal allocation of resources and cost control.
  • Ensure the Manufacturing Engineering deliverables are understood, and communicated, enabling the team to deliver, for example, PFMEAs, control plans, SOP’s, MBOM’s, and work instructions.
  • Drive continuous improvement both within the Manufacturing team and wider operational organisation.
  • Define and implement appropriate processes, jigs, fixtures, and equipment.
  • Assist with the management and resolution of customer, internal and supplier Quality concerns.
  • Oversees maintenance & repair of manufacturing equipment & spare parts inventory.
  • Deputise for Head of P&T when needed.

You’ll have:

Required Knowledge & Skills

  • Degree (or equivalent) in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
  • Proven experience in manufacturing engineering, with significant experience a managerial role.
  • Extensive knowledge, and experience of low/mid volume automation tools and techniques.
  • Proven in project management, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and budgets.
  • Knowledge of statistical techniques (MSA, Acceptance Sampling, Process Capability, SPC, Gauge R&R).
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the knowledge and experience to mentor others in the use of disciplined problem-solving tools and techniques such as 8D, FMEA, Control Plans, SOP’s.
  • Experienced with working cross-functionally in a global environment.
  • Experience of working with Energy Storage Systems in an assembly, prototyping capacity.
  • Knowledge of Siemens Teamcenter, MPP, and NoMuda Visual Factory software.
  • Knowledge and experience of implementing lean methods (5S, Six Sigma, Kaizen).
