Facility Compliance and Sustainability Manager

England, United Kingdom Clean Planet Energy Full time €30,000 - €60,000

Salary This role is for £30k-£60k depending on previous experience.

Clean Planet Group is dedicated to developing advanced recycling facilities (“ecoPlants”) that convert waste plastics into valuable resources, promoting sustainability and environmental responsibility. Our mission extends beyond facility operations to include Clean Planet Technologies, developing proprietary technology to further advance the sustainable use of mixed plastics and reduction of carbon emissions globally; as well as educational initiatives through our Foundation to inspire and implement meaningful environmental action.

A Clean Planet ecoPlant is an innovative facility, which in addition to meeting commercial goals, requires compliance with regulatory, environmental, and operational standards. The Facility Compliance and Sustainability Manager will primarily identify, manage, and execute all compliance and certification processes critical to the operation and trading of Clean Planet facilities. Thereafter they will support the wider group in meeting key sustainability targets.

This is a hands-on role requiring active participation in completing the necessary compliance tasks rather than simply coordinating others. The successful candidate will be instrumental in ensuring the company adheres to environmental regulations and industry certifications, supporting Clean Planet’s commitment to sustainability and operational excellence.

This is a global role, requiring adaptability to quickly learn and manage complex regulatory environments in diverse regions. In addition we are a small team, you will not hesitate to ‘muck-in’ in areas potentially outside your job description where it supports the wider progress of the company.

Facility Regulatory & Compliance
Lead the implementation of compliance steps required for Clean Planet facilities to meet operational and trading standards, including (but not limited to) EU Taxonomy (Article 9), REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals) certification, International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC+ & ISCC EU) standards, Packaging Recovery Notes/Extended Producer Responsibility (PRN/EPR), End of Waste Permits, and Renewable Energy Directive II (RED II) directives.
Support the teams in other related government/regulatory compliance requirements (such as VAT & Duty obligations), ensuring accuracy in reporting and operational readiness.
Collaborate with the Facility Operations Teams to establish and monitor compliance frameworks and sustainability metrics, enabling operational teams to maintain standards independently. Create streamlined reporting processes for sustainability certifications, improving efficiency and time-to-compliance for new ecoPlant facilities.
Develop tools and systems to streamline compliance tasks, including tracking obligations for certifications, permits, and trading readiness.

Environmental Research, Education, and Compliance
Research, monitor, and report on changes in environmental regulations impacting the group’s activities, including PRN/EPR, Mass Balance, and feedstock and offtake regulations.
Educate the Group’s leadership and relevant teams on environmental compliance landscapes, identifying actionable steps to address changes proactively.
Undertake the necessary tasks to implement regulatory updates directly tied to facility operations.
Where not covered in areas such as ISCC+, develop and maintain carbon footprint calculators, enabling Clean Planet facilities to align with regulatory requirements and sustainability goals.
Conduct internal facility-level sustainability audits and deliver actionable recommendations for improving energy efficiency, waste management, and emissions reductions.

Cross-Functional Support
Collaborate with the Clean Planet Energy, Expansion, Project, and Operations Teams to integrate compliance requirements into their workflows.
Support the Finance Department in managing areas such as VAT & Duty obligations and associated financial reporting.
Provide assistance to the Legal Team in interpreting and implementing regulatory requirements.
Partner with the Technologies and Foundation teams on projects linked to compliance and sustainability initiatives.

Serve as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies, certification bodies, and industry organizations.
Communicate compliance and sustainability efforts to internal teams and external stakeholders, maintaining transparency and alignment with Clean Planet’s mission.

Wider Clean Planet Group Sustainability Initiatives
Where the ecoPlant facility Regulatory & Compliance requirements are stabilised, then develop and implement sustainability programs aligned with Clean Planet’s environmental objectives, as approved by executive leadership.
Monitor and report on sustainability performance, identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.

ISO Standards Management
Identify and lead the implementation, certification, and maintenance of any relevant ISO standards relevant to Clean Planet’s ecoPlant operations.
Develop and manage ISO-compliant processes and documentation (in conjunction with the document controller), ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
Conduct low-touch internal audits and facilitate external certification audits to ensure continuous improvement and compliance with ISO frameworks.
Provide training and guidance to facility teams on adhering to ISO standards, fostering a culture of quality, safety, and sustainability.

Actively participate in or establish industry groups and lobbying initiatives to further Clean Planet Group’s current and broader business objectives, particularly in advancing regulatory frameworks for sustainable practices and chemical recycling.
Identifying for, seeking, and applying for relevant sustainability grants for the group.
Represent Clean Planet Group at conferences, panels, and stakeholder forums, serving as a credible voice in discussions related to regulatory compliance, sustainability, and innovative recycling technologies.
Stay informed about current and emerging global regulations, identifying potential impacts, risks, and opportunities for Clean Planet Group, and provide actionable insights to internal stakeholders.
Lead efforts to navigate and understand regional nuances in compliance and regulatory requirements, ensuring Clean Planet’s ecoPlants meet standards across multiple territories.
