Mastercard is a technology company in the financial services industry. We operate the world’s fastest payments processing network, connecting consumers, financial institutions, digital wallet providers, merchants, governments and businesses in more than 210 countries and territories. Mastercard’s Global Regulatory team is responsible for liaising with key regulators and law enforcement officials for the purpose of supporting Mastercard’s regulatory footprint and compliance with regulations around the world. This newly created position will engage with central banks, governments, non-governmental organizations, and private sector partners on key regulatory initiatives impacting the payments industry.


We are a team who partners across Mastercard to help shape and execute against our strategy, working cross-functionally across a global organization. We demonstrate decency and personal accountability to help lead the business forward through hands-on engagement, partnership and strategic value creation.


The candidate must have extensive experience providing both tactical and strategic advice to both regulators and internal executive level business professionals.


This position will be based out of our London, UK office.


Tracking emerging regulatory trends with a focus on both card and non-card payments – including account-to-account consumer flows, B2B, payments, and emerging retail/wholesale cross-border payments infrastructure – and understanding their context, motivations, and implications across the full breadth of Mastercard’s global operations
Leading the development of insightful thought-leadership on the regulatory implications of emerging trends (including those listed above), articulating a concise and compelling Mastercard point of view designed to support regulator’s understanding and assessment of these issue
Cultivating strong relationships with subject matter experts within key regulators, giving particular attention to deepening engagement with those individuals responsible for assessing emerging trends in payments and calibrating a regulatory response. A particular focus will be required on international regulatory standards setters such as the CPMI, FSB, FATF, etc.
Identifying opportunities to deepen Mastercard’s engagement with key regulators by organizing education sessions, providing thoughtful commentary (including to consultation papers and proposed regulations), and exploring opportunities for practical collaboration with regulators on financial innovation
Positioning Mastercard’s senior leadership to share their insights and perspectives through representation at conferences and panels organized or sponsored by relevant regulatory authorities
Participating in Mastercard’s global regulatory advocacy team, developing end-to-end strategies that drive alignment across Mastercard’s wide range of products/services, connecting the dots between regional regulatory efforts and support for Mastercard’s overall multi-rail strategy
Develop and deliver executive briefings to inform senior stakeholders on key regulatory issues
A robust understanding of the regulation and operation of payment infrastructure, and the work of global regulatory standards setting organizations
A demonstrated capacity to ‘think like a regulator’, placing yourself in mindset of regulators and regulatory standards setters to understand their underlying motivations and policy objectives
A demonstrated history of building strong working relationships with regulators as a trusted and valued source of expertise on a range of issues
