Milton Keynes Buckinghamshire, United Kingdom Pick for Britain Full time

A Vacancy at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and dynamic Clinical Psychologist to join the team at the Milton Keynes Hospital Neonatal Unit, as part of the Outreach Team in the Department of Children's Psychological Medicine, Oxford University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

The role will include direct clinical input to siblings, parents and families and will involve extensive working within the newly established MDT, as well as data collation, clinical supervision, teaching and staff training. The post holder will play a key role in developing and reviewing psychological formulations and as well as direct clinical work will work closely with colleagues across the MDT within the neonatal service. Close links will be maintained with the Oxford Neonatal Unit (levels 1 - 3) as well as with the other units which make up part of the Thames Valley and Wessex ODN.

This is a 2 day a week substantive role but further sessions may be available. Candidates who may need further support to develop the required competencies through a preceptorship role, would also be welcomed.

The Children’s Psychological Medicine department consists of 21 Clinical Psychologists, 2 Child Psychiatrists, a Family Therapist as well as Trainees and Assistants. We are a friendly and supportive team with good arrangements for supervision and further learning. The team draws from a range of theoretical frameworks to inform its practice, including attachment, systemic ideas, ACT, CFT, CBT and EMDR. The team provides a strong and supportive base from which we can give our best to the babies, children and families we meet, as well as to our multidisciplinary colleagues. As a team we place a strong emphasis on self-care and on supporting one another. This means that there are clear job plans and people are encouraged to maintain a good work/life balance. The positive working atmosphere and the opportunities for development mean we have a long track record of retaining staff within the team.

As well as clinical work there are opportunities to engage in research projects and the department has strong links with the Oxford Doctoral training Course with regular opportunities to work with core, specialist and research trainees.

Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest NHS teaching Trusts in the country. Oxford is a nationally recognized centre for medical education, professional training and research and as such seeks to recruit and retain those at the forefront of their field. The Trust has a strong ethos of supporting staff to achieve their potential and there are opportunities for research, as well as access to training and professional development.

Oxford University Hospitals offer a wide range of general and specialist clinical services which include a thriving psychological presence across the life span. There is access to a range of resources across sites including library facilities, canteens and cafes as well as an established staff support and well-being service.

The city itself is a large and cosmopolitan one with a range of museums and art galleries. There is access to a range of shopping locations, a vibrant café and bar scene and a number of established music venues to suit all tastes. The city has served as the backdrop for many films and television series and there are a number of specialist tours for those who are keen to explore further. The city is surrounded by picturesque countryside with the Otmoor wildlife reserve, historic Woodstock and Blenheim Palace less than 30 minutes away. We are also within an hour of London and of Heathrow for those looking to travel further afield. For more information see

Psychology services are well-established in both Oxford and Milton Keynes and our input is highly valued across the hospitals in which we are based. There is lots of supervision and informal support within the Children’s Psychological Medicine team within the hospital, as well as from the neonatal network. The neonatal role is a recently established post (0.4wte), supported by NHS England, and designed to improve outcomes for babies, families and the neonatal workforce.

The post-holder will collaborate closely with the Thames Valley Hub Lead Psychologist and Thames Valley & Wessex Network Psychology Lead already in post alongside the growing multi-disciplinary team within the neonatal unit and more broadly at MKH. There are lots of opportunities for peer supervision and CPD within the neonatal network, and more nationally with the special interest group of innovative and enthusiastic clinical psychologists.
