This new band 7 Specialised Clinical Physiologist position has arisen through expansion of Video EEG Telemetry services (HVT) provided by the Sir Jules Thorn Telemetry Unit at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery. As a Specialised Clinical Physiologist you will be responsible for providing high quality Video-EEG Telemetry studies for service users within the Epilepsy surgery program and neurological sleep services.

Our telemetry team provide the full range of video EEG services including:

  • Diagnostic studies
  • Pre-surgical studies including ictal SPECT
  • Invasive studies (with subdural and depth (SEEG) electrodes)
  • Polysomnography, MSLT and Actigraphy
  • At Home polysomnography and diagnostic video EEG telemetry

The successful candidate will be a highly motivated and engaging individual with several years of experience within the field of Clinical Neurophysiology.

Main duties of the job

Your main responsibilities will be to:o Provide a highly complex, specialist Clinical Neurophysiology service.o Undertake interpretation of results and provision of written factual reports, communicating directly with consultant staff regarding any findings.o Present the findings of the video telemetry studies at the weekly multidisciplinary meeting, and contribute to ward rounds and teaching sessions held on the unit on a regular basis.o Provide assistance with and actively participate in research projects carried out on the telemetry unit.o Education and training of techniques to new members of staff and demonstration of the telemetry unit activity to professional visitors.o Provide support to more junior staff on the unit.o Participate in quality assurance and audit within the department and on a regional basis.

Knowledge & Qualifications

Essential


  • BSc (Hons) in Clinical Physiology (Neurophysiology) or equivalent
  • IRCP Part I or equivalent
  • Post Graduate Diploma or equivalent experience

Desirable


  • Member of Professional Organisation

Experience

Essential


  • Must be able to show that they can perform the full range of neurophysiological investigations, EEG,EPs,NCS. This will include reviewing and preparing factual reports on these studies
  • Able to work autonomously in respect of standard clinical work and under supervision for more complex procedures e.g. invasive recordings and ECoG
  • Able to demonstrate knowledge of specialist procedures acquired through accredited courses or equivalent experience.
  • Evidence of continued professional development.

Desirable


  • Able to demonstrate underpinning knowledge of more specialist skills. They must also demonstrate that they can perform long term monitoring - video-EEG telemetry/ ambulatory recording, to include reviewing and preparing a factual report on these studies.
  • Evidence of experience of supervising students or trainees

  • Able to communicate effectively and sensitively with all patients, some of whom may have communication difficulties or challenging/aggressive behaviour
  • Able to communicate with departmental medical staff regarding the complex specialist data recorded.
  • Able to communicate effectively with other health care professionals from various disciplines.
  • Able to demonstrate and inform visitors about the work of the department.

  • The post holder will be required to work flexibly and participate in an on call rota.
  • Post holder must have enough manual dexterity to be able to apply the electrodes accurately.
