We are seeking a Specialist Paramedic Urgent Care (SP) who will provide enhanced clinical support and supervision of staff across a range of clinical settings. Working as an autonomous practitioner within a MDT, you will provide advanced clinical management and coordination of complex and challenging care to patients in clinically demanding situations and environments.

The Specialist Paramedic (SP) will primarily be based in the Integrated Hub and will provide enhanced clinical support and supervision of staff across a range of clinical settings. Working as an autonomous practitioner within an MDT, the SP will provide advanced clinical management and co-ordination of complex and challenging care to patients remotely. The SP will affect the correct clinical assessment, treatment and care pathway for a range of patients with emergency and urgent care needs safely and in line with level of training and competency. This will be in accordance with Trust policies, procedures and protocols, national guidelines (e.g. Provide leadership and management to more junior clinical staff including supervision and performance management


Actively identify, report and act on any clinical risks


Contribute to and apply policies, procedures and guidelines


Work alongside senior management colleagues to develop and implement innovative ways of working to benefit the whole heath community


Work as an autonomous practitioner within agreed scope of practice, knowledge skills and experience using competencies and either non-medical prescribing or patient group directives (PGDs) to work towards quality care for everyone every time.


Note: This job description is not intended to be exhaustive and other duties may be required in accordance with operational need within the ambulance service that are applicable to the post holder. To work as an autonomous practitioner as part of a multi professional team in the delivery of the care as directed by the ambulance service.


To provide care and treatment to patients presenting with undifferentiated emergency, urgent and unscheduled care problems, managing patients in, or closer to home, presenting with chronic and long-term conditions, as well as minor or major illness, and minor or major injury


To exhibit an advanced breadth and depth of knowledge combined with critical thinking and expertise in patient assessment, point of care patient diagnostics and clinical interventions which will be supported by an extended scope of practice beyond that required for paramedic or HCPC registration.


To develop knowledge and skills in identified areas of specialist practice and contribute to pan-service education, training, and research and audit activity.


To work to a defined medical model with the attitude, skills and knowledge base to deliver holistic care and treatment within a variety of settings with a broadly defined level of autonomy.


To enhance the patients experience through their emergency, urgent and unscheduled care journey by providing emergency/urgent assessment, diagnosis and treatment.


Provide an operational response/clinical treatment to patients who may have presented through the 999 / 111 systems or through a walk in clinic setting.


To provide emergency clinical scene management, if first on scene in the case of multiple casualties, major incidents etc, in accordance with Trust policy and procedure, until relieved by an appropriate Incident Commander.


To maintain timely communications with the Emergency Operations Centre/Clinical Hub, using any means available and appropriate during operational shifts, ensuring that the Emergency Operations Centre/Clinical Hub is aware of operational availability at all times.


To undertake stand-by duties as directed by the Emergency Operations Centre/Clinical Hub, in accordance with current policies and escalation procedures.
Undertaking modules applicable to obtaining Post Graduate Certificate/Diploma and potentially Masters as an advanced practitioner
Successful obtainment of Post Graduate Diploma

Significant pre-hospital experience in both the emergency and primary care setting, working as an autonomous practitioner assessing, diagnosing, treating and discharging the full range of patient ages and presentations both injury and illness.
