We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated therapist to join us in the future development of this service, and in return, we provide excellent opportunities for CPD, peer support and supervision. You will be providing assessments, rehabilitation and complex discharge planning within Brixham Community Hospital.


Our people are caring, committed, inclusive and focussed on quality. To provide a 7-day service to patients needing specialist assessment and treatment in order to facilitate a safe and timely discharge from community hospital
Under supervision of the Clinical Team Lead and in conjunction with Physiotherapy Colleagues, to be responsible for the continued development of the inpatient therapy within Brixham community hospital.
To provide clinical assessment and treatment for patients identified as having therapy needs, within Medical/Surgical/Emergency Services.
To explore innovative new ways of delivering acute patient services to facilitate speedier discharges from Hospital and participate in implementing and evaluating changes to the service.
To develop links with community-based services and Intermediate Care teams to ensure a continuous intervention.
To plan, implement and evaluate treatment programs for patients with a wide variety of medical conditions in liaison with multi-disciplinary teams, families, carers and other agencies.

We are a small and friendly team of Occupational Therapists who are integrated within a wider team of Physiotherapists and Rehabilitation Support Workers covering 20 inpatient medical beds at Brixham Community hospital. We have excellent leadership and support from our senior members of the team including a Head of Occupational Therapy Services/Principle Occupational Therapist, together with an Inpatient Therapy Manager. Diploma/Degree in Occupational Therapy.
Knowledge of National Service Frameworks.
There is a requirement to complete Moving and Handling Assessments with patients and completedaily moving and handling practice as part of inpatient rehab. The hospital setting is a busy environment with a high case load and fast patient flow.
At times you will be working with patients who do not have good outcomes which can be emotionallyupsetting. You may be required to deliver bad news or deal with conflict at times, which can beemotionally demanding. You may work with patients and their support networks who have conflictingopinions, which can be emotionally demanding.

Qualifications and training
Diploma/Degree in Occupational Therapy
Valid state registration with Health Professions Council
CPD portfolio and evidence of recent post-graduate learning relevant to area of clinical practice
Have a minimum of 18 months experience within the NHS including experience working in a variety of roles both in the acute and community settings

Detailed understanding of roles of multidisciplinary team members/health and social care agencies
Knowledge of National Service Frameworks
Knowledge of Government legislation and directives affecting health and social care
Evidence of continuing professional development
Experience of Service Development and in a health/social care setting
Experience of supervision of junior or support staff
Recruitment and selection training
Experience of working across service boundaries, with Social Services, Intermediate Care other agencies
Experience of service developments e.g. documentation, local standards of practice, protocols and service changes
Experience of working in community hospitals

Elderly care rehabilitation skills
General physical rehabilitation skills to include neurology, cardiology, respiratory and other medical conditions
