We are looking for an experienced, thoughtful, collaborative and friendly attorney to join a multi-faceted practice with a close-knit team.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • For select Gilead assets, develop a strong working relationship with the GCSO Oncology & Inflammation organization, providing strategic legal advice tailored to GCSO business needs, embodying a “One Gilead” mindset to bridge the gap between operational goals and successful execution.
  • Provide prompt, strategic, and efficient legal input to internal GCSO clients and senior management regarding complex legal matters that span multiple jurisdictions—particularly in the areas of advertising and promotion, fraud and abuse and other applicable healthcare laws.
  • Review and advise on global strategic and tactical business plans.
  • Work in close partnership with the Office of Ethics and Compliance and other Gilead Legal teams to help ensure the GCSO organization operates within legal, regulatory, and ethical frameworks, collaborating to manage legal risks while achieving business objectives.
  • Participate in the Global Review Committee (GRC) framework for select Gilead assets. Actively engage in GRC meetings and provide thorough feedback on a broad spectrum of materials and activities. Provide overarching global legal insights that resonate and align with the goals and objectives of the GCSO organization.
  • Influence and advise on ways of working cross-functionally, especially between Medical and Commercial areas, and across jurisdictions.
  • Support the global to local Gilead business model by fostering open lines of clear, two-way communication with US and International Legal Business Partners (LBPs) to drive awareness and alignment with respect to legal guidance on global initiatives.
  • Stay abreast of relevant legal developments and industry trends, identifying and recommending opportunities to enhance department approach.

REQUIREMENTS:

We are all different, yet we all use our unique contributions to serve patients. Please see the following for the qualifications and skills we seek for this role.

Minimum Education & Experience

  • A Juris Doctorate or fully qualified legal credentials in one or more geographies of operations. Fully admitted to practice law in the respective country or jurisdiction.
  • Several years of professional experience in-house in biotech, pharmaceuticals or other highly regulated industries or law firm advising in all relevant areas of practice for these industries. Knowledge of and experience in applying the relevant pharmaceutical laws, regulations and industry guidelines including PhRMA, EFPIA, ABPI and IFPMA Codes of Practice. Ideally the majority of the years of career spent in-house.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and ideally one or more other languages of the countries in which the company operates.

Knowledge & Other Requirements

  • Invest time and effort in building strong relationships with business stakeholders. Actively seek opportunities to engage with business stakeholders, anticipate their needs, and offer support or guidance in a timely manner. Be proactive in understanding their goals and challenges.
  • Apply a deep understanding of the biopharma industry, Gilead's business objectives, and the specific challenges faced by different departments. This will enable the legal and compliance team to provide tailored and practical advice.
  • Approach challenges with a problem-solving mindset. Work together with the Compliance team and business stakeholders to find solutions that comply with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Cultivate and display the ethics and values for which Gilead strives, and actively engage with stakeholders from a place of trust and partnership. Be firm when needed, even when working with more senior stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate a high-degree of autonomy and organizational skill, with the ability to manage competing deadlines and priorities.
  • Respond promptly to inquiries, requests, or concerns raised by business stakeholders. Demonstrate a sense of urgency in addressing their needs and provide timely feedback.
  • Foster open and transparent communication channels with business stakeholders. Clearly communicate requirements, succinctly explain the rationale behind decisions, and provide regular updates on relevant changes or developments.
  • Embrace a culture of continuous improvement. Actively seek feedback from manager and business stakeholders, striving to enhance the quality and effectiveness of legal support provided.
