Job Location: Naz Office, 30 Blacks Road, Hammersmith, London W6 9DT and across multiple sites within Lambeth, Southwark and Lewisham, and occasionally other London locations. Some hybrid working is available

Hours: 37.5 hours (5 days) per week

Normal working hours 9am-5:30pm with some evening and weekend working

25 days annual leave entitlement per year (pro-rated to length of contract)

Terms: Fixed-term contract until 31st September 2027, with possibility of extension

for a further 2 years

The post will be offered with a 6-month probationary period

Background:

In partnership with CAHN, IRMO and Turning Point, Naz is delivering a new model of sexual health support throughout the three London boroughs. Naz has a particular expertise working with Black, Asian and Global Majority communities in London, and as part of this role you will be targeting Black communities in the three boroughs.

Our evidence-based interventions are designed to enable those with the greatest risk of poor sexual health outcomes to have fulfilling sexual lives, understand how to access the right local service and ultimately to support better physical, mental and sexual health outcomes.

We have one other role we are hiring for at present - Marginalised Communities Sexual Health Outreach Coordinator; open to applicants from Black, Asian and Global Majority Communities:

Job purpose:

To develop and deliver a culturally competent sexual health promotion and STI/HIV prevention service to people from Black communities within the London boroughs of Lambeth, Southwark and Lewisham.

This role will focus on work with Black communities across the three boroughs. Due to this focus, the first role is only open to people who positively identify as having Black ethnicity, or dual/multiple heritage including this. (Exempt under the Equality Act 2010 Schedule 9, Part 1).

You will work with target population groups, utilising your cultural insight of the communities to build trust, maximise engagement and provide accessible services.

Health promotion activities will include Rapid HIV Testing, providing brief information, advice and support to people about sexual health and wellbeing, identifying risky behaviours and referring people appropriately into sexual health services. This will take place in a variety of community settings accessible to target populations including community groups, churches and shopping centres.

Main responsibilities of post:

Outreach and Health Promotion

1) To be responsible for developing and coordinating the delivery of health promotion information/resources including condom distribution to people from Black, Asian and Global Majority communities across the three boroughs, with a focus on Black Communities.

2) Improve access to primary care, GUM and other health services by developing referral pathways to healthcare providers and chaperoning to NHS services

3) To develop and increase confidence, awareness and knowledge levels of people from Black, Asian and Global Majority communities to enable them to take control of their own lives with regards to accessing sexual health services.

4) Recruit, train and supervise volunteers to support the project; assign roles and tasks

5) To provide point of care rapid HIV testing in Black community settings in the three boroughs.

6) To liaise closely and work in partnership with other agencies in the community, voluntary, statutory and commercial sectors to help raise awareness of HIV and sexual health in Black communities

7) To run training workshops to community organisations and a variety of other stakeholders and service providers around sexual health

8) Support refugee, asylum-seeker and other migrant populations within the three boroughs to have good sexual health and be able to access services

9) To represent Naz at public events relative to the needs and concerns of Black communities in the three boroughs

Internal

10) To prepare work plans and quarterly monitoring reports on project progress on reaching agreed targets and outcomes

11) To manage and complete all record keeping/attendance figures, ensuring data and information relating to service users is accurate and shared in the appropriate way with key stakeholders; ensuring the maintenance of accurate records for purposes of evaluating and monitoring the project

12) Keep up to date on issues related to HIV and sexual health promotion prevention for our communities

13) To attend team meetings regularly and other meetings as appropriate

14) Document all client work in line with Naz good practice, particularly with regard to confidentiality and data protection issues

15) To carry out the duties of the post with due regard to Naz policies such as Equal Opportunities, child protection and adult safeguarding, data protection and health and safety

16) The ability to work flexible hours outside of normal office hours with reasonable notice

17) To carry out other duties as may be reasonably required

Person Specification

Education and qualification

1) 2 years’ experience of working with Black, Asian and Global Majority communities in either the statutory or non-statutory sector paid or voluntary capacity

2) Work experience or qualifications in fields including gender, sex, sexuality, reproductive health

3) Community work, youth work, social work or other appropriate qualification
