Drama Republic is a dynamic independent TV production company,specialising in high quality drama.

Context

Reporting on a day to daybasis to the Head of Development with overall reporting lines to the CEOs. Thedevelopment script editor role works closely with the Development team and theHead of Development at Drama Republic, providing editorial support on selectedstate projects and developing new ideas for the slate.

KeyResponsibilities and Outputs

· Providing in-house script editorsupport on selected slate projects. Reading scripts analytically and providingnotes for improvement.

· Writing pitch documents and seriesdocuments as required.

· Meeting with writers, agents andoccasionally commissioners to build connections and find talent.

· Alongside the DevelopmentAssistant or in-house Script Reader, reading submissions and providing succinctcoverage and assessment of the strengths of scripts / pitches

· Finding podcasts, articles,pitches, plays (etc) that could form the foundation of a project, and pitchthem internally to the development team.

· Working with Drama Republic’s bookscout to assess and find adaptable I.P

· Research – to be undertaken forspecific development projects or productions, as directed

· Taking and writing up notes fromdevelopment or story lining meetings.

· Contributing to agent, writer,director and producer lists

Requiredskills, knowledge and Experience.

· At least 12 months experience in adevelopment and/or script editing role

· Excellent administrative and organisationalskills. Thorough knowledge of office systems.

· Excellent script reading andassessment skills providing succinct coverage of scripts and assessment oftheir strengths – relating material to a sound knowledge of current TV dramalandscape

· Ability to act on own initiativeand to demonstrate tenacity and resourcefulness. The post holder will oftenwork unsupervised (as well as working as a valued member of the Drama Republicteam), resolving problems and making sound decisions, knowing when to referupwards if necessary

· Excellent time management skillsand the ability to prioritise a heavy workload without supervision

· Excellent demonstrableinterpersonal and communication skills - sufficient to establish and maintaineffective working relations with a range of people, and to establish productiverelationships with contacts external to Drama Republic

· A flexible and pro-active approachto meet ever-changing demands and to work reasonable additional hours as andwhen required

· Enthusiasm, resilience and staminato sustain performance when under pressure from tight schedules, deadlines andconflicting priorities

Otherexpected behaviours

· Demonstrates a keen interest inthe productions made by Drama Republic

· A knowledge and enthusiasm for thecurrent TV drama landscape, particularly of content from British broadcastersand production companies.

· A keenness to learn and developwithin the role

· Discretion and confidentiality areessential.

Location: Drama Republic office, London

Contract: 12 months

Salary: £45k-£50k per annum (based on experience)
