Our client is a leading player in the workwear, firewear and protective clothing industry, providing high-quality, innovative and protective clothing solutions to their valued customers across the world.

With a solid presence in the UK and European market and a well-established on-line sales channel, they are poised for substantial growth in the coming years.

The business has a manufacturing site in North Africa (French speaking region) although operations, supply chain and finance are based in Manchester. The business also has locations across Europe, in total the leadership team manages operations in 4 countries.

Production planning is a key part of business operations and this role is seen as a key role. It will report into the CFO although there will be lots of interaction with the CEO and leadership team.

A key focus for this role is to move the production planning from less reactive to more proactive. This will involve a lot of manual input initially, using spreadsheets, analysing data and physically meeting with the leadership to ensure that the sequencing and prioritisation is in order. This will involve speaking with key stakeholders that span 4 countries.

Once production planning is under control the successful candidate will embark on an improvement project to create and implement best in class processes that can be eventually automated and systemised using production planning software.

This role would ideally suit a junior production planner who has worked for a small manufacturing or FMCG business (Turnover less than £20m) that is ready for promotion. The business is committed to training the right individual who is ambitious and driven by results. This is a great buisness to work for.

Objectives for the new Production planning manager:

In 6 Months:

  • Take full responsibility for production planning and create a virtual team of key stakeholders that ensure customers needs are met.
  • Create best in class manual processes ensuring that production planning is robust and proactive.
  • Embed a communication strategy across 4 countries that works efficiently for the needs of the business.
  • Create a strategy and delivery plan for the next 3 years

Within 3 Years:

  • Professionalise the production planning process and ensure that it is considered an integral part of the company's continued success.
  • Deliver a transformation project that will replace manual processes with automated processes that are considered best in class.
  • Scope, acquire and implement production planning software that meets the news of the business.
  • Reduce material costs by 5% through efficient planning and waste reduction.
