Our client delivers the majority of the apprentice provision within the company. The major part of the current provision is in Engineering with smaller delivery in Motor Vehicles, Science Laboratory Technicians, Information Technology, Business Administration and other professional apprenticeships together with a Chartered Management Degree Apprenticeship. The focus of the company is on ensuring that current and future students receive a first-class experience that enables them to progress and attain their qualifications at high levels and to develop long-lasting learning and employability skills. Success is measured in terms of meaningful progression in education and training, value added and destinations into higher education and/or employment. The Role The focus of this role is to visit the workplace to assess apprentices studying the Engineering Apprenticeship Standard. You will need to have an Assessor Award qualification and will need to have a background in the following areas of engineering – machining, maintenance and manufacturing up to Level 4; although offering other engineering areas up to Level 5 would be an advantage. You may also be asked to contribute to the FE teaching in vocational engineering. If you have experience of the IQA process or an internal verification qualification this would be an advantage. A key focus is in helping the Head of Section ensure that your students meet and exceed their target grades and are successful. This role is about providing a high-quality student experience and outstanding outcomes in Engineering. Main Purpose and Responsibilities

  • Conduct the assessment and monitoring of candidates on engineering apprenticeships; complete all administrative work connected with the assessments and apprenticeships.
  • Keep and maintain accurate records of all forms of assessments according to the company and awarding body requirements.
  • Provide prompt and constructive feedback to candidates soon after assessment.
  • Make sure that assessment strategies used are inclusive (regardless of gender, age, origin etc.)
  • Embrace new technologies and updating learning materials for use on new learning platforms.
  • Contribute to Teaching theoretical and practical workshop sessions relating to a variety of topics to Engineering/Maintenance apprentices;
  • Contribute as appropriate, to the development, marketing and recruitment for both new and established courses provided by the School of Science, Technology, Engineering & Professional.
General Duties of the Post The post holder will assist with or undertake the following:
  • Teach or assess on one or more of the courses provided or serviced by the company and contribute to the development of existing and new provision and the implementation of flexible and cost effective teaching and learning styles.
  • Complete the administrative work connected with their teaching/assessing efficiently and effectively, including completion of registers, records of work and various forms of student progress sheets.
  • Develop and implement student assessment strategies in accordance with policies and the requirements of awarding bodies.
  • Adopt a consistent approach in dealing with student discipline in accordance with policy
  • Adopt procedures and practices to create a safe working environment and enforce any safety standards in the area of work, ensuring all students comply.
  • Ensure that equipment and materials are treated with respect by classes for which they are responsible and that workshops, computing rooms and other teaching areas are left clean and tidy.
  • Keep abreast of developments in their specialist fields and in the fields of education and training.
  • Participate fully in professional development including lesson observation, undertaking of training or re-training and the acquisition of essential qualifications.
  • Assume tutorial and pastoral responsibilities, and take part in the recruitment and interviewing of potential students.
  • Take part in enrolment and induction procedures.
  • Be an active course team member and participate fully in meetings, career conventions, in- service training sessions, conferences, seminars, open evenings and student assessment evenings etc. in addition to their teaching and administrative responsibilities.
  • Organise and take part in study trips with students, locally and abroad.
  • Cover for absent colleagues.
  • Represent their team on committees, working parties, etc.
  • To keep up-to-date with QA initiatives and to develop and meet service standards for the Group/company /Department.
  • To participate in the Professional Development Programme and undertake training as required including all relevant areas of technology.
  • To propose any ideas which may help to promote and extend the Group's reputation and efficient running of the Group.
  • To work safely, consider the safety of others and work within the guidelines stated in the Group Health and Safety Policy
  • To be available to assist in enrolment and other procedures which may require occasional evening and weekend work.
  • Undertake other duties as may be required by the Group Leadership Team or their representatives, in order to ensure the efficient functioning of the Group.
