Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To provide comprehensive administrative support to the District Nursing Service Leads.
  • To line manage an administration team, ensuring that the service is adequately covered at all times.
  • To organise, prioritise and delegate work across the team ensuring sufficient cover is in place.
  • To develop and maintain administration staff rotas as required including cover for sickness, annual leave, lunch breaks, or to meet service demands.
  • To work closely with Team Leads to ensure there is standardised practice across the service roles, and adherence to policies and procedures.
  • To assess work priorities on a daily basis and provide direction and instruction as required.
  • To provide regular supervision and yearly appraisals for allocated staff, identifying appropriate developmental and learning opportunities.
  • To train new members of staff and supervise work of any temporary staff.
  • To update Standard Operating Procedures when changes are implemented to services.
  • To be willing and able to undertake the duties of a Team Administrator to meet service needs.

Education

Essential criteria

  • GCSE (A* - C) or equivalent in Maths and English
  • Higher National Certificate/Diploma or equivalent level of knowledge/experience

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Moderate experience of working in an administrative capacity
  • Experience in a supervisory or line management role
  • Understanding of Equal Opportunities and Diversity
  • Understanding of Data Protection / Confidentiality

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of working in a customer care setting
  • Experience of working in a healthcare setting
  • Knowledge of Patient Appointment/Database Systems i.e. SystmOne

Skills

Essential criteria

  • Demonstrable knowledge of MS Word, Outlook, MS Teams and Excel
  • Accurate data entry and typing skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to work to a high level of accuracy and with attention to detail
  • Ability to negotiate and influence others
  • Demonstratable Knowledge of using different systems and databases
  • Ability to work unsupervised
  • Excellent time management skills, with the ability to work effectively under pressure, meet deadlines and prioritise workload
