This post is Fixed term for 12 months to cover Maternity leave. We are looking for compassionate sonographers, to join our friendly, multidisciplinary ultrasound team at Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust.

Main duties of the job

Support the Ultrasound Manager and Imaging Services Manager in driving forward the ultrasound service. To be an autonomous practitioner working within agreed protocols and guidelines exercising independent judgment and autonomous clinical decision making in performing ultrasound examinations within a given specialty, which might include injections, FNAs or biopsies. To work beyond the sphere of the sonographers, undertaking extended clinical practice in order to support and minimize the workload of the consultant staff. To provide expert clinical and technical advice to other sonographers, trainees, SpRs, student radiographers and other health professionals. Use highly developed skills and knowledge to conduct a wide range of general Ultrasound procures both as an autonomous practitioner and as part of a multi professional team, in a manner that meets professional, departmental and legal standards and requirements. Ensure patient safety is maintained and patient experience is positive by treating all patients, relatives and colleagues with respect, dignity and courtesy in accordance with Trust values. To lead and participate in research, audit and CPD. Use professional discretion to work outside of departmental standards when clinical circumstances necessitate i.e. undertaking additional or specialist techniques and authorise others to do the same.

Job responsibilities

As a Clinical Specialist Sonographer in Head and Neck, you would be expected to: Be an autonomous practitioner working within agreed protocols and guidelines exercising independent judgement and autonomous clinical decision making in performing ultrasound examinations within a given speciality, which might include injections, FNAs or biopsies. To work beyond the sphere of the sonographers, undertaking extended clinical practice in order to support and minimise the workload of the consultant staff. Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential


  • PgD/MSc in Medical Ultrasound or Diploma in Medical Ultrasound (Obstetrics, Gynaecology +/- general ultrasound)
  • Hold a current state registration certificate (HCPC, NMC)
  • Have a portfolio evidence
  • Have training in Head and Neck Ultrasound

Desirable


  • MSc qualification in Ultrasound
  • Small parts (Testes/Thyroid etc.)
  • Nuchal Translucency accredited (Fetal Medicine Foundation & DQASS)

Experience

Essential


  • Previous experience, training and/or qualification within a designated specialty (MSK/GI/Head & Neck)

Desirable


  • Leadership experience
