Keegan & Pennykid (Insurance Brokers) Ltd was established in 1968 and provides its clients with professional and independent insurance advice.Our client base is spread across the UK and Northern Ireland and includes individuals, businesses and charities.

The position of Commercial Insurance Broker will entail providing a comprehensive insurance service to existing and potential new clients.This will involve providing advice and quotations on all types of Commercial and Charity Insurance, placing cover when instructed, inviting and confirming renewals, dealing with mid-term adjustments and providing assistance with claims issues when appropriate.A proven background in commercial insurance is vital, with experience working in either an insurance brokerage or insurance company.Ideally you should also have knowledge of charity insurance, although this is not a prerequisite.

You will be joining an established Commercial team within our central Edinburgh office.You will be the first point of contact for clients when contacting the company and so attention to detail and excellent customer service is essential. You will also ensure that all work is carried out in a fully compliant nature, in line with FCA regulations and requirements.The successful applicant may be required to complete relevant examinations to meet with any future requirements set out by the regulator.In return you will be offered a highly competitive salary and benefits.

Hours: Full-time: 9am-5pm, Monday to Friday

Salary: £41,000

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide new business quotations for Charity Insurance and all classes of Commercial Insurance on request, providing relevant advice, information and guidance.Where client requests are beyond your range of experience or authority, immediate referral to be made to the Head of Department or other authorised person.
  • Take instructions from new clients, ensuring cover commences at the correct time, all relevant paperwork is completed, premium is collected and relevant records and diary entries are created.Where Employers Liability is included, this will also involve issuing the Certificate of Insurance and Policy Schedule, and despatching to the client with the correct policy document.
  • Take instructions from existing clients in respect of alterations to current policies, ensuring insurers are notified and records updated.
  • Offer renewal of existing clients’ policies with current insurer or move to new insurer, as appropriate.In each case, ensure relevant paperwork is completed, premium is collected and relevant records and diary entries are created.
  • Check thoroughly all client documentation before despatch, ensuring queries are raised and amendments completed.
  • Control your own diary system, ensuring all items are followed up by the due dates, particularly in relation to outstanding documentation from clients or insurers, premium payments and continuation cover notes if appropriate.
  • Filing of digital client files on a daily basis
  • Provide risk advice/risk management/risk prevention information on Non-Motor risks to clients, in conjunction with Underwriters, as appropriate.
  • Assist, when required, with the Accounts function of the business in carrying out credit control with relevant clients.

Any other duties that may be required by your Manager in accordance with the nature of this job.

KNOWLEDGE:

The job requires a thorough knowledge of:

  • The FCA Rules
  • The principles, practices and legalities of all major classes of General Insurance and in particular, insurable interest, utmost good faith, indemnity, contribution, average and subrogation.
  • The UK General Insurance market in respect of Commercial & Charity insurances.
  • Underwriting and rating factors, and how these are applied in relation to all major classes of Commercial insurance.
  • The range of Commercial Lines & Charity products offered by the Company and the handling procedures for each of them.
  • The Company’s Complaints Procedure.
  • The operation of the Company’s IT system, including procedures, authority limits and audit trails, and in particular, the operations and functions related to transacting business via EDI.

This job is office based with normal working hours and conditions applying.
