Our client in Harrogate is looking for an Assistant Tax Manager for their Personal Tax – Land and Estates Team.

The ideal candidate will be committed to a career in tax and will have relevant strong experience in a personal tax (ideally L & E but if not then a desire to work in this area of tax) and currently be operating in the capacity as an assistant manager.

The role

The successful applicant will need to be a strong and ambitious portfolio assistant manager responsible for their own portfolio dealing with everything from compliance to advisory needs. Reporting will be to the Partners, Director and Senior Manager. You will also be required to assist with the management of the group including supervising and reviewing the work of junior staff.

The role includes managing all the related and complex aspects of the tax affairs of a variety of high-net-worth private clients, including non-UK domiciliary. Experience of internationally mobile individuals and employees, residence, and domicile, including the statutory residence test and the remittance basis would be very useful.

There is also the opportunity to become involved with other tax related projects outside of the individual’s normal portfolio responsibilities, assisting in one-off tax advisory projects, writing articles or briefing notes for publications as well as assisting with other business development activities and presentations.

The individual

  • The ideal candidate will be committed to a career in tax and will have relevant strong experience in a personal tax role and (ideally L & E) currently operating in the capacity as an assistant manager.

  • Experience of running a tax compliance portfolio, including organising the delivery of work, problem solving and the ability to use your own initiative is essential, with the experience of sole trader accounts preparation and preparing computations from accounts being desirable.

  • Previous experience of using computerised accounts or tax packages is useful. The firm uses CCH Central.

  • The successful applicant will require confidence in dealing with partners and clients, excellent organisation and interpersonal skills, the ability to provide accurate work in a timely and cost-effective manner and comfortable at working under pressure to tight deadlines within an ambitious team.

  • With this role, come the pre-requisites that the candidate is motivated, committed and flexible with the ability to meet deadlines.

  • A natural team player is essential, with a positive and enthusiastic attitude.

  • Candidates should be educated to at least A level (or equivalent), ideally degree level(or equivalent) and will have obtained a relevant professional qualification i.e. CTA/ACA/ICAS (or equivalent).

The department

Their personal tax team sits within their Private Wealth and Estates Group and is recognised in the market for its expertise in advising private clients and their businesses. Theyprovide a personal partner-led service, concentrating on personal and business finances. This deliberate focus is their strength; they do not try to be all things to all people. Instead they choose to specialise in looking after private clients, where theyhave real in-depth expertise and experience.

They have considerable experience in advising on international and cross-border issues. They use their diverse commercial experience to advise on the issues facing high net worth individuals today, such as the financing of business interests, maintenance, and passing on of wealth and the tax efficient streamlining of their affairs.
