Leading legal aid law firm, who deal with some ground breaking cases, are looking for a practice manager to join their team and take charge of the day to day running of the practice as well as provide executive support. The role will include dealing with all HR, compliance, finance, IT/IR, building management, and managing Partners’ meetings.

A small selection of duties will include:

  • Recruitment of all new staff to include the interview process, contracts, reference checking and onboarding
  • Managing grievance and disciplinary process and organising appraisals
  • Advising on resource planning
  • Leading on the development of HR policies and strategy
  • Drafting employment contracts
  • Legal directly submissions and other practice development initiatives
  • Financial audit coordination
  • Quarterly expenditure reviews and general oversight of expenditure including approving invoices
  • Supplier management and procurement: reviewing and negotiating third party contract terms
  • Responsible for the maintenance and smooth running of all internal IT systems, managing third party suppliers of IT and telecoms services as well as the timely updating of all IT and internal systems.
  • Managing Practising Certificate renewals and company insurance policies
  • Health and safety training
  • Ensuring the firm’s policies are compliant with data protection laws and confidentiality
  • Advising on agendas for management committee meetings and circulating minutes and action points

It is essential that you have management experience although this does not have to be from a law firm – they will consider candidates from NGOs, charities etc. as long as you have covered the main areas.

You will be supported by several assistants (finance, IT Support etc.) and there is the option of some hybrid/flexible working. This is a varied and challenging role that requires a positive can-do attitude with the desire to genuinely make a difference to the running of this aspirational firm. You must be dynamic, proactive and strategically minded, and able to bring new ideas to the table.
