Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer – Packaging Equipment
Our award winning Client develops ‘end of line’ packaging machinery that replaces traditional Shrink Wrappers and Corrugated Case Packers for the FMCG sector that meets the exacting demands of the Retail sector for a fully closed loop recycling regime that also cuts production costs.
Established as an alternative to shrink wrapping, our Client has developed a new and unique secondary packaging system using ‘cold wrap’ technology, developed to help businesses achieve their commitment to deliver lighter weight, lower cost and more energy efficient transit and retail ready packaging.
The system eliminates the use of heat, (as usually applied in shrink wrap systems), substituting it with a lighter, 100% recyclable polymer film that, when combined with innovative corrugate tray designs, uses less cardboard making it suitable for ambient, fresh and frozen products. This is an important and senior position in an expanding North West based Company and an opportunity to play a key part in the growth and development of an innovative business at the forefront of sustainable technology.
Reporting to the Head of Project Engineering, the aim of this role is to support the development, integration and implementation of a new packaging technology in the Food and Beverages sector , through:
o Development of the design of a packaging machine that uses new packaging technology.
o Production of 3D models and layout drawings for customers.
o Design of bespoke materials handling machinery and conveyor systems.
o Liaison with system controls engineer to integrate electrical components in the design, these will include Inverter drives, servo drives, PLC´s, HMI´s, and motion controllers.
o Specification of mechanical components to ensure they meet given requirements.
o Mechanical integration of machinery and conveyors into existing lines to support production.
o Providing technical support for field service engineers and customers.
The role is predominantly factory based, but expected to support new system installations as and when required.
o A self-reliant, self-disciplined individual with drive, adaptability, creativity, problem solving and decision-making capabilities, capable of delivering against key performance objectives, ideally gained in the Food and Beverage Manufacturing sectors.
o Good knowledge in a packaging machinery environment.
o Should have advanced PC literacy skills, a good knowledge of MS Office suite is essential
o Customer focused, used to working at pace and a flexible and adaptable approach commensurate with the demands of a small, but growing business
o A proven track record of achievement in a manufacturing design environment.
o At least 3 years’ experience in a design role and the production of machinery drawings, preferably gained in a capital machinery, materials handling or conveyor systems environment.
o Mechanical Engineering degree is preferred, a minimum of a HNC/D Level in a Mechanical Engineering discipline is required.
o Experienced in the demands of the food manufacturing industry would be an advantage.
