Role Description

To assist in the management in the health, safety, quality, and environmental matters within JSM Group through the provision of professional advice and solutions, ensuring compliance with legislation and best practice. To support and assist the SHEQ director in discharging his duties.

This role is based full time in the office with site visits as and when required.

Principal Duties and Accountabilities

To develop and implement Health and Safety best practice, ensuring the Company complies with current health and safety legislation, approved codes of practice and guidance in relation to employment and service provision. To work proactively with all levels of management, to establish and maintain a safe system of work and a safe environment for colleagues and clients.

General Duties

  • To manage, guide, mentor and support the SHEQ Advisors in their roles and responsibilities daily.
  • To facilitate senior managers meetings as requested
  • To review sub- contractor (SC) on-boarding submissions for approval and manage the database
  • To support the companys bid team in the completion of PPQ and/or tender questionnaires in relation to required SHEQ information.
  • To ensure that any HR breaches are acted upon immediately and the SHEQ director informed.
  • To advise and assist in the planning and promotion of SHEQ programs and establishing a suitable organisation to put them into effect.
  • Help interpret and advise on the implementation of the companys policies, procedures, integrated management system (IMS), codes of practice and safe systems of work.
  • Contribute to the JSM`s IMS
  • Review and assist in the implementation of company safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensure the requirements under the companys integrated management system are followed accordingly.
  • Discharge your specific duties for matters regarding health, safety, welfare, and Environment as defined in the company policy and in any procedures efficiently and effectively.
  • Monitor the safety performance on the contracts under your control and take such steps as are necessary to improve the performance.
  • Carryout regular site audits on both direct and sub-contracted employees
  • Ensure projects are CDM compliant, and the relevant documentation is in place and in date.
  • Attend clients project meetings as and when required.
  • Manage the Investigation of the causes of accidents, the circumstances leading to them and compile the necessary reports for the SHEQ Director.
  • Ensure all levels of staff receive adequate and appropriate health, safety, and environmental training.
  • Set a good personal example when on site by wearing the required PPE.
  • Ensure so far as you are able, that effective arrangements exist to protect the health and safety of our work force and ensure that all relevant operational and emergency procedures, codes of practice, instructions and legislation are being adhered to.
  • Responsible for exercising a general duty of care for the health, safety, and welfare of employees under your control instituting effective arrangements for the efficient implementation of company health and safety strategies, operational procedures and safe systems of work.
  • Shall ensure strict adherence to the reporting and recording of accidents and dangerous occurrences as required by the Reporting of Injuries Incidents Dangerous Occurrences (RIDDOR) Regulations.
  • Shall manage health and safety effectively in the same way you manage other aspects of the job.
  • Shall monitor arrangements to ensure that health and safety standards applied by contractors are satisfactory and in accordance with contract specifications and method statements.
  • Shall ensure that employees and contractors work in accordance with the companys health and safety requirements, policies, and procedures along with JSMs clients requirements.
  • Shall take appropriate action when notified of a blatant disregard of health and safety.
  • Shall ensure the provision of a safe and healthy working environment for persons working in or visiting any company operations.
  • Promote the reporting of near misses throughout the company reporting system.
  • Support the SHEQ Team in them being able to facilitate their duties under current health, safety, and environmental legislation along with the companys current policies and procedures.
  • Conduct annual appraisals on the SHEQ Team on monitor their performance.
  • Help promote and encourage the development of the companys behavioural safety and mental health program.
  • Liaise and work closely alongside the SHEQ departments consultants and external auditors.
  • Ensure monthly KPI reports are compiled within a timely manner and presented to the SHEQ Director on-time.

Qualifications
  • NEBOSH Diploma
  • 5-10 years minimum experience working within either the construction and/or utilities sector.
  • Competent in Word and Excel
