In line with the governments priority to increase access and availability of mental health and well-beingsupport for children and young people, an exciting opportunity for a CAMHS Practitioner has arose todeliver evidence-based early interventions for children and young people, working across botheducational settings and healthcare sectors in Luton.

This provides an opportunity to embed your skill set in the schools and early intervention setting. Weexpect to attract applicants from diverse professional backgrounds that can deliver evidence-basedintervention for pupils aged 5-19, their parents, carers and families. Applicants will also support schools'staff to look after their own well-being, increase their knowledge and skills around mental health andcontribute to the development of a whole school's approach.

Main duties of the job

The post holder is responsible for developing and disseminating packages of care. The care may includea variety of evidenced based interventions and work with parents and teaching staff on an individual andin a group setting. The post holder works collaboratively with young people and their familiesincorporating the use of outcome measures within their work. They offer specialist support, consultationand training to staff within the service and other agencies where appropriate. The post holder provides assessment and therapeutic interventions at Tier 2 level.

The Luton Schools Liaison Team sit at the getting advice/getting help aspect of the Thrive model andare supported by specialist CAMHS. The post holder is responsible for supporting the development of the teams and embedding its services within educational settings. The post holder will hold a caseloadand undertakes the role of lead professional for children/young people with mild to moderate mentalhealth problems in educational settings. They work as an autonomous and accountable practitioner. Thisinvolves the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of the care for the child or youngperson.

Candidates will play a key role as members of the Luton CAMHS Schools Liaison Team (CSLT)), who will have the responsibility for delivering schools overarching approach to providing mental health and well-being support for children and young people.

Education/ Qualification/ Training

Essential


  • oQualification in appropriate mental health profession such as Nursing, Child Psychotherapies Counselling, Art Psychotherapy, Social Work, Family Therapy (two years with diploma), Occupational Therapy, or Experienced EMHP/CWPs
  • oRegistration with relevant UK governing body.

Desirable


  • oParenting qualification and parenting supervision qualification.

Experience

Essential


  • oExperience of working with a wide range of mental health problems
  • oExperience of care planning
  • oExperience of working in a multi-disciplinary way

Desirable


  • oPrevious experience of working in CAMHS
  • oExperience of working in a culturally diverse inner city area

  • oEvidence of well-developed clinical skills relevant to CAMHS
  • oSpecialist clinical skills within in specific therapeutic modalities
  • oAble to manage own time and caseload
  • oExcellent verbal and written communication skills
