Job summary

The HTT across South Bedfordshire and Luton have opportunities for an experienced Mental Health professionals to join our team specialising in working with young people who have a diagnosis of Autism and/or Learning Disabilities. The post holder will work within the HTT as part of the Alternative to Admission Pathway, and will predominantly work with young people on the Transforming Care Pathway, in addition to working with those under the core home treatment pathway.

The HTT are an integrated multi agency service offering treatment to young people and families with complex and significant mental health presentations. We provide short to medium term high intensity intervention with the aim of preventing hospital admission and work with local partners and CAMHS teams cross South Bedfordshire and Luton.

The Transforming Care programme aims to improve the lives of young people with a learning disability and/or autism who display behaviours that challenge, including those people with a mental health condition.

The programme has three key aims:

To improve the quality of care for people with a learning disability and or autism.

To improve the quality of life for people with a learning disability and or autism.

To enhance community capacity, thereby reducing inappropriate hospital admissions and length of stay with a mental health condition. In South Bedfordshire and Luton this includes young people who are at risk of becoming a Child Looked After in a 52 week placement.

Main duties of the job

The post holders will have

A desire to be innovative and creative in meeting the needs of children, young people and families at a point of crisis

The ability to work within a team and forge good working relationships with multi-disciplinary and multi-agency colleagues

Experience of undertaking effective risk assessment, risk management and collaborative working with young people and families

Experience of working in a mental health setting with leadership, management and supervisory responsibilities

Experience of working with young people with ASD and LD

Great communication skills with young people and with colleagues from different sectors.

The work will range from Mental State assessments to multi-agency work including therapeutic work, consultation, peer supervision, joint work and participation in team meetings. Person Specification

Education/ Qualification/ Training

Essential

Recognized professional qualification/registration (eg Degree/ Diploma or equivalent in Social Work, RMHN/RNLD, BACP or BABCP accredited, Systemic Practitioner with two years post graduate training, Counsellor. Relevant post graduate qualification.

Desirable

ENB 998 or equivalent teaching qualification/experience. DBT/CBT training Masters Degree or working towards postgraduate qualification in related CAMHS or specific treatment modality.

Experience

At least 18 months of working in CAMHS or with young people experiencing mental health difficulties Previous experience of working with/supporting young people with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) and/or a Learning Disability Experience of working in the community and working with a multi agency network Experience of managing and supervising junior staff Experience of service development Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary setting Experience of working in a culturally diverse area Experience of working in or liaising closely with multi agency teams working with adolescents eg Youth Services, YOT etc Experience of working with vulnerable young people who present with high risk behaviours

Experience of using CBT Speciality CAMHS experience (eg YOT/Eating Disorders/ Adolescent Inpatient ward/ work in substance abuse)
