We are lookingfor an innovative, ambitious leader with a history of deliveringresults and developing a team to join the dynamic ‘New & GrowthCategories’ super squad. You’ll be the centre of all things new inCurrys bringing emerging markets to life for customers across ourmarket leading omnichannel platform. 

This is a new team withhuge expectations – it’s about creating new value and growth forCurrys through inspiring and educating customers about the latest andgreatest on trend new tech, embedding these new categories into ourbusiness and finding the next big thing You will be responsible for ateam of 6 Buyers/Assistant Buyers and will be accountable forsupporting their development whilst creating a fun, inclusive and safeenvironment for the team to excel.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Owning delivery of the Category strategy to establishCurrys as the retailer of choice for customers in our highest growthopportunity categories
  • Determining the future of ‘newcategories’ in part of this role, so dealing with constant change andambiguity is a key requirement
  • Harness credible relationshipswith our suppliers and develop a sourcing strategy to both bringcustomers the best ranges, supported with availability but also tominimizing the risk to categories as we launch into new areas ofretail
  • Negotiating product ranges – cost pricing, additionalterms, exclusivity, distribution, stock availability alongside Go tomarket budgets including displays, training and content budgets
  • Negotiating additional fixed and variable financial termsrelated to ranging, activity and performance – maximising EBIT acrossthe category
  • Working with merchandising to ensure that we areforecasting at the right level to maximise sales and stock turn
  • Use customer and market data provided by the go to marketteam to ensure correct ranges and promotional plans are in place todrive customers for life, improvements in market share and netprofitability through development of exclusive products/plans whereappropriate to address customer needs
  • Ensure suppliercontracts are completed in line with the company DOA andpre-determined annual timetable

Required Skills &Experience:

  • A natural leader with a proven trackrecord and plentiful experience of managing and developing a largecommercial team 
  • Substantial buying experience working withina Electrical/FMCG/Fashion or Hard Goods fast paced retailer
  • Strong negotiation skills and ability to manage all supplierpartnerships at differing levels of seniority
  • Excellentnumerical and analytical skills to review data and providerecommendations/actions plans to drive sales, profit and cash 
  • Good working knowledge of SharePoint, Teams, Excel, Word andPowerPoint as well as MS Office workflow tools 
  • Marketing/Merchandising/Retail/Business Degree
